~TWO Things Thursday~

1. Is it bedtime yet? So exhausted!! I think my body is detoxing from the vacation. Is there such a thing as ice cream withdrawal?

2. Due to the above, I didn’t work on my vacation post at all yesterday so hopefully I get a chance to work on it tonight after my girls’ night out. Don’t count on it…

That's all I could come up with today. Have a good one!

Getting back in the Groove

Well I have been back at home/work for a couple days now and it is still insane!! I have started working on my vacation recap but it cost me some sleep so you better all enjoy it!! Haha! It still isn’t ready but hopefully it will be done soon (Blogger dependent because I always have problems adding pictures).

Last night was my first run in 9 days (hi Penny!). Yes, I only ran once during my vacation. Bad girl! It was a short 4K and surprisingly I didn’t feel like dying (although that’s not what I was saying to my running partner last night!). I was faster than I thought I would be and I didn’t have to walk. Yay for small victories! Now I wasn’t breaking any records by any means but I was seriously worried.

Everyone is complaining about the rain that we have been getting the past 2 days (we brought it back from the Okanagan, you’re welcome), but honestly I was relieved to have some cooler temps to run in. Silver lining in everything right?
Anyway, despite being ridiculously busy and stressed, it is nice to have my daily routine back. I am a creature of habit and I hate change! Unless we are talking about clothes… Plus, I eat so much better at home (thanks hubby!), which means I feel better!

Now if things would just slow down at work and the laundry folded itself that would be grrreeeaattt!

I'm Back!! Vacation is over :(

After 10 restful days off, it's back to reality...

Many road trip details to come but I foresee a busy couple of days while I catch up from my time away. You certainly pay in more ways than one when you go away on vacation!

Skaha Lake in Penticton
I must admit- I am happy to be home! I missed my kitty and my bed!

I peeked and saw that my Google Reader is exploding with race recaps, training updates, and life details... it might take me awhile to get to them all but I am super excited to read about what everyone has been up to!

~Three Things Thursday~

1. Look what I got for my BiRtHdAy!!!

ALWAYS EARNED NEVER GIVEN
Now I finally have somewhere to hang all my medals, with lots of room for more!!

2.  40 30 Day Challenge is over! The first 30 days went really well- I was able to get in at least a 20+ minute workout each day, but then the wheels fell off. There were a couple days that I didn’t feel so great or that I was really busy and didn’t plan well enough to fit in a workout. At first I felt extremely guilty but realistically it was bound to happen. I gave it my best and sometimes there are things out of your control. I am going to try to keep it up (except next week when I am on holidays- unless I count walking!) as I felt really good. For the most part it wasn’t hard to fit in a short workout, although some days were more challenging than others.

3. Holiday time! I am so excited to get out of town and relax for 10 days! Okanagan, here we come! Bags are packed- just need this work day to end so we can hit the road. Don't worry- I have brought my running shoes so I plan to check out each place we stay on foot!

See you later! I promise I will be well rested and have more to blog about when I get back!

I caught a glimpse....

... just barely!!

After much anticipation, and many people getting up ridiculously early (I am normally up ridiculously early for work anyway) to get front row seats along the parade route to see Will and Kate, we were treated to a fast drive by in a covered town car with half-rolled down tinted windows. Wahhhhhhh!! (I have pictures but can't download them until later).

It was a tease and a huge disappointment!! I am so glad I didn't pay for parade seats!

~Three Things Thursday~

1. Will and Kate are coming today!!! I hope to catch a glimpse of them at tomorrow's Stampede Parade! Along with 200,000+ other people. Oy!

2. Yesterday was probably the hottest day of the year so far. It isn’t hot by many standards -which I am thankful for when I am out there running. It was about 28C. Surprisingly the heat makes people bail on their runs just as much as the cold- our group last night was considerably smaller than our usual clinic night. I know it’s hot, but we were only running 3ishK!!

The 3.38K felt like 15K. We were mostly in the sun, so when we finally turned onto a shady street we all sighed with relief! Glad my next run will be in the morning!

3. If I ever say that I want to buy some loose fitting running shorts again, slap me!! I tried on a number of shorts (thanks for all the suggestions!) and decided on a pair of Turbo Run Shorts from Lululemon. They looked good, felt good and when I tested them on the treadmill before fully committing to them they didn’t ride up! I Well wouldn’t you know, as soon as I ripped the tag off and stepped outside to run in them they started to ride up! Do I really run that differently on a treadmill versus outside? I was so mad! I will wear them for short runs, but they will drive me NUTS on a longer run. I did put Body Glide on so I wouldn’t chafe but it’s the nasty feeling of fabric riding up that gets me.

Turbo Run Short

So I have decided that I dislike summer running not because of the heat but because of shorts (which I guess is because of the heat)! I hate shorts!! HATE HATE HATE them!! I don’t even really like regular shorts- they are not flattering on me and I spend more time adjusting them than just enjoying life.

I am so mad that I returned the running skirt that I bought- it probably would have been way more comfy than these shorts!!!

That is my rant for the day.

Outdoor Yoga

Yesterday we did a 4.53K run with the clinic. It was supposed to be 5K but honestly I wasn’t missing the 0.47K as it was so hot!! Thankfully we caught every single light so we got to rest a lot! We are so not used to running in heat! I am not complaining though- it just makes for a slower, sweatier run!

After our run we did a 30 minute outdoor yoga session with a guest instructor. It was the first time I have ever done yoga outside. It was an amazing experience! I do wish I had some bug spray. It was hard to do downward dog as the grass was a little rough on the hands but some of the other poses were easier because you could grip the grass a bit more.

If you haven’t done yoga outdoors before, I highly recommend it!

Green Thumb

It was such a beautiful afternoon yesterday that I went home and weeded a bunch of the garden. It seemed a shame to spend more time inside after working inside all day. Gardening is definitely a workout. My legs were aching from all the squatting and my arms were constantly moving- either pulling up the weeds or tossing them to the side.

After all that hard work, I spent the evening watching some HGTV. I love Property Virgins and their totally unrealistic expectations!

After trying to convince myself that gardening for 1.5 hours was a workout (it was!), I decided I should get at least 20 minutes of a real workout in for my Challenge. Off to the basement to do 25 minutes of Ripped: Slim and Lean.

Update on my Garmin- she is back to her dying ways. I have to plug her in after every run. I tried downloading the updated Firmware but apparently I am technologically incompetent and it won’t work. I also deleted all the history on it. I think I am just going to have to bite the bullet and send it away before the warranty is up.

~Monthly Stats: June 2011~

Recap of June and my progress towards my GOALS for 2011

Total # runs- 13 -same as the last couple of months!
Total # kms- 63.9K- a new low month for the year! To be expected at the beginning of a training cycle 2011
Total # kms- 547.1K

Best run- Run in Medicine Hat the day of my cousin's wedding. It wasn't anything spectacular, just a nice change of scenery.
Worst run- I had to dig to find a bad run and all I came up with is the 4K run that I didn't bring water on.
Total # races- 0
Total # non-run workouts- 15!! Finally some progress in this area! Thank you 40 Day Challenge!
Total # books read this month- 1.5- I finished The Hunger Games and the 2nd book in the series, Catching Fire. I am now on the 3rd book. The suspense continues!
Eating Habits- 4/5 I did the Sugar Free Challenge for 10 days. It was tough at the beginning but once I stopped craving sugar it was better. I became addicted to how good I felt after eating healthy foods without any added sugars. It's amazing what they sneak sugar into! Now that the Challenge is over I am still having sugar but mostly as treats instead of in things like my yogurt and salad dressings.

June Reflections

June was awesome! Finally summer has arrived and I had more runs in shorts than long sleeves! Yay!! It is also officially 1 year since I started my first half marathon training clinic! I am so happy that I have continued to run this distance and met such a great group of people to run with.

This month also brought the 40 Day Challenge and it has been going really well. My cross training has almost quadrupled. I have done lots of yoga, biking and strength training. Just need to get more swimming sessions in. My tri is creeping up on me!
