~What I did this Weekend!~

Holy cr@p it was a busy weekend! I think I am more exhausted now then I was before the weekend started!! The good news is that I did accomplish a lot so at least it was productive!

Friday we stayed in but I was pretty busy washing and folding all the baby clothes and organizing the nursery. Finally I can see the floor of the nursery! I also made these No Bake Energy Balls that Leigh recommended here. After a shaky start (I messed up the melting of the peanut butter and honey!), they turned out really well!! I like that you can use whatever you have on hand to put in them, so mine were a crazy mishmash of things. I am definitely making more of them though!
I pushed a little too hard though and my feet were so swollen by the end of the night. Thankfully hubby offered to give me a nice foot rub so they felt much better!

Saturday was another baby prep day. My mom, sis, niece and I went out for lunch which was so nice!! My niece insisted that I sit beside her- she likes to feel her cousin kick! Afterwards we went to Shoppers Drug Mart to stock up on all the baby and postpartum essentials. There are so many options out there- it was quite overwhelming so I am glad I had my mom and sis there to help me out!

I had a bachelorette party to go to in the evening for my good friend A. We started at Parker House for dinner- which I highly recommend if you are looking for a fancy place for dinner.

All the pretty ladies!

Beaming Bride-to-be

Afterwards we kicked it up a notch and went to Vicious Circle for drinks and dancing!! Of course I did neither of those in my condition but I had lots of fun visiting with friends and feeling especially old (and awkward) in a bar full of 18-21 year olds!! I didn't stay too late as it was quite loud and I am not sure how good that is for the baby! Plus I was just plain tired!

No drink in front of me

Lap dance time!

It was a great night and I am so glad I was able to "party" with the girls one last time before the baby comes! Can't wait for the wedding next weekend!

Sunday morning I slept in. I met up with our Half Marathon running group for brunch to celebrate the completion of their final long run (20K) before they race in 2 weeks. It was awesome to hang out with everyone and feel part of the group even though I haven't run in what feels like forever!! Plus we got to hang out with our instructor's cute little baby Emily!

I made the dumb mistake of going to Walmart on a Sunday afternoon. Never again!! What a zoo! I ended up being there for 2 hours and was a grumpy mess when I got home! Hubby insisted that I lay down for a foot rub and of course I fell asleep for about an hour!! I felt much better after that!

I spent the rest of the evening doing more laundry and chores around the house. Still working on getting rid of the nasty burned chicken smell!

I start training my replacement's temporary replacement (long story- involves a broken wrist and 6-8 weeks of disability) at work this week. Only two more weeks of work!!!! Yippee!!

Maternity Photos- 34 Weeks!!

The amazingly talented Amy from Tickled Pink Photography took some maternity photos of us a couple weeks ago- before the cold snap! It was a windy day but you can barely tell in the pictures. We had such a great time and Amy has been awesome to deal with from the very first time I contacted her to book the session, she put me at ease during the shoot and was very quick to edit and mail the CD to us!

I can't wait to have her take newborn pictures of our precious bundle!!

We wanted to do both a few bare belly pictures, which required us to be inside, as well as some outdoor pictures. We stuck close to home since we started with the bare belly shots.

Here are a few of my favourites (it's so hard to decide!!):

Now to decide which ones to print and frame!! I love them all!!

Help me narrow it down! Which are your Top 3 favourites??

~Two Things Thursday~

1. I have a chest cold :( Man it sucks! Coughing feels so weird on the belly and of course I can't take anything for it. Here's hoping it doesn't stick around for too long.

2. We (hubby) had a bit of a cooking disaster earlier this week. He was making homemade chicken soup one night and forgot to turn off the stove before going to bed. Needless to say we woke up to a disgusting smell, which turned out to be chicken carcass burned to a crisp! Now our entire house reeks of this burned, rancid chicken smell. Since I can't smell, I am even more paranoid about it because I can't tell for myself how bad it actually is! Hubby says it is nasty, which doesn't reassure me! We have tried airing out the house (Thank God it happened this week when it's warmer outside than last week when it was -38C!) and cleaned all surfaces on the main floor with a baking soda/water mixture (other than the couches and rug). Hubby says that definitely helped- except some surfaces have this noticeable white film all over them! Ahhhhhhhh!! It's such a disaster and I hope it goes away soon! This might be why I don't cook...

Baby Shower!!

My best friend, L graciously hosted a baby shower for me this past weekend. It was so much fun and I am so grateful for all the effort she put into making it a wonderful afternoon!

We have so many amazing friends who are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Baby N!

As soon as we arrived, we were all given 3 clothes pins. If you said the word Baby and someone overheard you, they could steal one of your pins. At the end of the shower, the person with the most pins won a prize. I am terrible at this game so I lost my pins pretty quickly, even though I tried to refer to the b-a-b-y as Spawn!!

Note the clothes pins!

We played another game where everyone had to guess the size of my bump. The person who was the closest with their streamer won! Apparently Baby is smaller than everyone thought!

T was a little off!

We also played a Baby Word scramble game which I won!! Doesn't surprise me considering that I have been researching baby stuff for the past 8+ months!! Some of the words were tricky though!!

L is also an awesome baker- she made the cutest giant cupcake with the most delicious icing and pretty pink sprinkles!!

Best Giant Cupcake ever!

Soon it was present opening time- where the ooooohhhhhing and aaaaaahhhhing was non-stop! Baby stuff is so adorable!

Thank you so much everyone!!!

36 Weeks: Less than a month to go!

How big is Baby Girl N?

Honeydew
She probably weighs about the same amount I did at birth!! She is gaining approximately an ounce a day.
What's even more crazy is that next week she is considered full-term!!

Weight gain? Up 1 pound, for a total of 20 pounds.

Maternity Clothing? I am not supposed to be wearing heels since my hip flexor is all messed up, however all my dress pants are hemmed to wear with heels (I don't walk too much at work) so I have been struggling to put together "dressy" outfits that I can wear with flat shoes. Leggings aren't quite appropriate at my office but they are so comfy!

Cravings? Hubby ate the last of the ice cream in the freezer the other day- I was not impressed! The craving passed though.

Symptoms? My hip flexor pains seems to be getting better. I find that stretching it, icing it and trying to not sit for too long (easier said than done!) makes a big difference. On the weekends the pain is pretty minimal because I can move around a lot more and during the week the pain gets progressively more annoying.

My belly button is getting closer and closer to being an outie! I give it another week or two before it pops out.

One great symptom of pregnancy is how amazing my nails are!! I had gel/acrylic nails for the past 10 years and decided to grow them out when I was about 5 months pregnant. They grow so quickly and are pretty strong considering! My nails have never been this nice before! I heard it's from the prenatal vitamins so I might continue to take those... forever.

My hair also grows like crazy but I have to get it highlighted more often so can't decide if that's a good symptom or bad!!

Sleep? Oh now I miss you! Sleeping has never been an issue for me- ever!! People always give me a hard time because I LOVE my sleep. The last week has been tough in terms of sleep. I am sleeping way more lightly, wake-up constantly and just can't get comfortable. It sucks! I am sure it's nature's cruel way of preparing me for severe sleep deprivation once baby is here but shouldn't I be resting up for that? I can barely keep my eyes open during the day at work.

Workouts?  Due to my bum hip, the only workout I was able to do last week was prenatal aquasize. I should try to go to the pool for open lane swim but the times are so inconvenient :(

What I am excited for? Being done work! I feel like I can't concentrate anymore and I just want to be able to relax. Only 13 more days...

What I miss? Just good sleep and running.

Memorable Pregnancy Moments? My friends feeling the baby kick was pretty neat! I am glad she cooperated because it really is the coolest experience and I love sharing it with other people.

Baby Purchases? The glider has arrived! I wasn't expecting it for a few more weeks so when the courier company called I was quite confused! Hubby lugged it upstairs by himself when I was at my Baby Shower. I can't wait to rock my baby girl in it!

Baby Gifts? This little girl was very spoiled at her Baby Shower on the weekend!! Let's just say my SUV was jam packed full of gifts, including the back seat! My best friend graciously offered to host a shower for us and I am forever thankful for her generosity. I had such a great time visiting with my friends- I truly am blessed to be surrounded by wonderful people. (Pictures to come!)

Baby Projects? So I scrapped the idea of making a bed skirt and pillow cover for the nursery. First I couldn't find fabric and secondly the more stuff we set up in the room, the more I realized that it looks perfect the way it is and adding another fabric to the mix will only make it feel smaller and cluttered.

Hopefully we will make some progress on the wall photo collage this weekend!

Prenatal Classes? Last week we had our Active Birth class with our midwives. It was a pretty informative class on what to do during early labour, when to call them, some of the tests that are available to us either before or after the baby is born and just general ways to prepare for the birth.

Pregzilla Moments? Mostly related to my office move!

~What I did this Weekend~

How is it Monday already? What a crazy busy weekend, to be followed by a crazy busy work week getting settled at the new office!

Friday after packing at work all day (disaster zone!), we had a relaxing evening at home. My hip was really bothering me so I took it easy. We finally signed up for Netflix and watched Waiting which hubby found hilarious; me- not so much! At least Ryan Reynolds had his shirt off in one scene!!

Saturday we slept in and hubby made waffles- my favourite! In the afternoon, I met my friend J for coffee. It was nice to finally meet her in person after years of conversing virtually!

I ran a couple errands afterwards and then spent the evening doing some baking since hubby was out for the night. I've heard it's good to have some easy snacks available for those sleepless nights when the baby is first born, when the last thing on your mind is feeding yourself.

I made these granola bars that I heard about from a fellow mommy blogger, Morgan @ Mon Petit Amour.

Goody Two Chews from Janet and Greta Podleski - Eat, Shrink and be Merry authors
Ingredients:

1/3 cup light peanut butter
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
2 egg whites
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
2½ cups low-fat granola
¾ cup dried cranberries

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 250°F. Spray a 12-cup muffin tin with cooking spray and set aside.
  1. In a medium bowl, beat together peanut butter and maple syrup on medium speed of electric mixer. Add egg whites and pumpkin pie spice and beat again until smooth.

  2. Stir in granola and cranberries. Divide mixture evenly among muffin cups. Bake on middle oven rack for 45 minutes.
  3. Remove from oven and cool completely on a wire rack before removing clusters from pan. Stir in an
  4. airtight container.

Mixing the ingredients

Ready for the oven
Ready for the freezer

So delicious!! I put them into the freezer immediately so I don't devour them before baby is born!! I will certainly be making another batch ASAP since I know they won't last very long.

I also made a double recipe of my favourite Banana Chocolate Chip muffins. Comfort food!!

Yum!!

I planned to make some bran muffins but ran out of flour! We thought we had more in the basement but guessed we used it all up when doing Christmas baking last month.

Hubby also made some apple sauce which we will freeze for later consumption. In the next couple of weeks we (ok, hubby) will stock the freezer full of easy-to-make meals so that we aren't scrambling for food when we are both sleep deprived. We don't want to compromise good nutrition when we need it the most.

Apple sauce in the making

On Sunday I was totally spoiled at my Baby Shower hosted by my best friend, L!! It was so nice to see so many of my friends that I haven't seen in awhile. We played a couple games (I won at the baby word scramble!), ate lots of delicious food (my friend is an amazing hostess- her parties rock!) and of course ohhh and ahhh'd over all the cute baby stuff!!

Measuring the Bump game

Some of the loot!!

Love this book!

Bath time!

The amazing hostess!!
While I was out, the glider arrived!! I totally wasn't expecting it for a few more weeks!! Other than a bit of organizing and art, the nursery is ready!
