~Three Things Thursday~

1.  It's snowing again so I am staying inside baking and doing laundry! Love having this option right now! Makes me dread February though when I will have no choice but to venture out regardless of weather.

Looks pretty but it's so cold!

Another snowy walk today

2. Crap-- I have a 5K race-- Santa Shuffle in 2 days that I wanted to PR in and it's snowing! It's supposed to continue snowing tonight, and tomorrow which means the course won't be ideal conditions. Must re-evaluate my goals.

A Goal- Sub 30 minutes
B Goal- PR (sub 31:44)
C Goal- Just finish without getting injured, regardless of time

I'm thinking I will reach my C Goal! I should have known better than try to PR in the winter around here!

I'll be doing my last training run before the race on the treadmill.

3. Danielle, I am packing up your goodies so check your mail in a few days! :)

Oh brain... If found, please return to me!

I've had a bad case of post- vacay brain, blondness, mommy brain or whatever you want to call it! Since I can't get my brain organized you get a mish-mash of thoughts.

I showed up at run clinic last night expecting to run 4-5K. Turns out it was our first hill night! How could I forget that the first week of hills we switch to Tuesdays instead of Wednesdays since we have a speaker. Oops! Not really a big deal but it really annoys me that I completely forgot about the switch. Normally I am so good about these kinds of things.

Then I couldn't remember how to stop the auto-lap on my Garmin. You would have thought I hadn't used the thing in years!

The hills actually weren't that bad! I much prefer running them in the cold than in the heat. Good thing I live where I live!

So that Crockpot Honey Sesame Chicken I made last night? Hubby was not a fan! I was kinda shocked since he likes most things. Oh well-- there are a million other recipes on Pinterest, along with our 30 or so cook books to go through!

Tonight my BFF and I are going to see Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2. I'm so ridiculously excited!! Yes, I am a teenage girl!

~This & That~

We are finally back into a groove after our trip. I love routine so I am pretty happy to have some consistency back in my life!

Unfortunately, my book club was cancelled on Friday due to the hostess's husband having the flu. Thanks-- I'll pass on those germs!

We have finally jumped on the meal planning bandwagon! I've been talking about it for months (years!) and just decided to go for it last week. It was nice to know exactly what we were going to eat each night and grocery shop with that in mind. It's also a great way for hubby and I to sit down each week to  go through recipe books/Pinterest and decide what to make.

I've even made a couple meals myself! I made a thai green curry and a jambalaya. Both were relatively easy. I just followed the recipe on the green curry paste package and made the jambalaya from Crazy Plates (pg 169) so no links to share. I've decided that I like to make meals that are all in one dish. That way I only have to focus on one thing!

Tonight we are trying the Crockpot Honey Garlic Chicken that Alison recommended! I hope mine turns out as yummy as it looks in the picture.

I have been doing lots of Christmas shopping! On Sunday, I went with my mom, sis and aunt. I bought a few things. While it was nice to shop without the baby, I really missed having the stroller to put all my purchases in! Next time I am bringing the stroller anyway!

Yesterday, I felt like I was on a roll so I ventured out to the mall again. Audrey was good for the first 1.5 hours and then she reached her limit. We need to work on this girl's shopping stamina! Thankfully she went to sleep so I was able to get a few more gifts before we headed home.

I'd say I'm about 50% done my shopping. Oy!

Now I'm working on Christmas baking! I have to make sure I don't eat them all though Downside to having all these goodies in the house... I'm pretty sure I gained a few pounds while in Phoenix and with Christmas around the corner I don't want to gain anymore. We have implemented a "no snacking" rule past 9pm at our house to cut out late night snacking. Neither of us need it.

Christmas decorating? So far we have a fresh wreath on the front door. Apparently hubby didn't think our fake one was good enough this year. :)

Fresh wreath

We also put fresh boughs in our flower pots in front of the garage. They look so pretty! I hope they last since it gets quite windy out front and they aren't protected at all.

I'm struggling with when to decorate the house since Audrey is in to everything these days and I'm already struggling to keep her from eating dirt (that plant has since moved to hubby's office downtown!) and cat food, climbing stairs, pulling the cat's tail and chewing on shoes!

The love is very much one-sided!

Tossing the laundry every which way.
Yes, that's a sock in her mouth...

I think we might put the Christmas tree in our upstairs office/bonus room so we can close the door. It's not the best space for it but it's probably the safest spot!

What do you do to keep your babies from touching the tree?

And now for an iPhone photo dump!

*Alison wanted to see my new brown boots that I got in the U.S.

Iphone Fun & Weekend!!

I've been playing around with my new iPhone-- trying to get all my settings just how I like them, downloading apps and fixing my contacts since they transferred over a bit messy.

Thanks for Alison for revealing the secret to her great photos! I love Picfx! I think all my pictures may have hearts and different effects on them now! Also thanks for telling me about Google+! You rock!

Panda love!

Yummy cookies!

Helping in the kitchen... by licking all the tupperware!

I can't believe it's the weekend again! This week has just zoomed by while we adjusted to being back home.

Tonight I have my first ever Book Club. We read The Imposter Bride which I highly recommend! It's a bit of a dark read. It is set in Canada which is nice for a change! It's worth adding to your Christmas list. I'm looking forward to discussing it tonight!

Tomorrow I am getting my hair done! I'm sporting the Ombre look which looks awful on me! I have so many tiny hairs growing in around my hair line (thanks post partum hair loss) that my hair looks bad pulled into a pony tail, braid... pretty much anything easy!

My Mom's birthday is tomorrow so we are celebrating it on Sunday with our annual Girls Christmas shopping and dinner date. Can't wait! I've missed my family since I have been away.

~Three Things Thursday~

1. Yesterday, Audrey and I went for a walk... It's a bit snowy and cold out!!

It's freezing out here Mom!!

Fluffy white snow

At least the snow looked neat on the trees

Trying to stay warm all bundled up!

Snow covered boots & legs!

2. Guess who got an iPhone last night??? Yup-- this girl!! Super excited! I decided to go with the 4S. Many thanks and kisses to hubby and Audrey for braving the roads to pick it up while I went for a run. It was nice to run with the group again after 3 weeks away. Running in the snow wasn't so much fun but I did buy a pair of shoe grip things so that made me feel way more secure on the snowy and icy sidewalks.

So what apps do you recommend? Alison-- how to I get hearts in my pictures?

3. So that 5k coming up? I'm not sure I'll be able to get a PR/sub 30 time. If the footing conditions are anything like last night it will just be too dangerous to push myself. I did manage to do a couple 5K runs in Phoenix just under 30 minutes so I know I CAN do it but it's not worth hurting myself if it's icy outside. Hubby also informed me that the altitude is closer to sea level in Phoenix so running is "easier" there. Maybe I'll just have to find a 5K in Phoenix then!

The good news is that my awesome instructor, Penny is also running the Santa Shuffle so hopefully we can run together and I can get a PR even if it isn't sub 30 minutes. The one thing I know and love about this city is that the weather can change quickly so in 2 weeks it's very possible all this snow could be gone so I'm not giving up hope yet!

~Adventures in Phoenix~

It was a lovely 3 weeks vacation in Phoenix!! We couldn't have timed the trip better with the cold weather here and the hot weather there.

Travelling

Audrey was a little trooper on the plane! Thankfully it's a quick 3 hour or less flight so it wasn't too hard to get to and from Phoenix.

Saying goodbye to Daddy before customs

First plane ride!

Waiting to board the plane on the way home

Sun and Heat

The first 2 weeks were HOT! The sun was out almost every single day and when the girls would be napping, the moms would be sunbathing! The temperature ranged from 28-33C for the first 2 weeks and then cooled down to 17-26C for the last week. Nothing to complain about there!

Fountain in the backyard

The fire pit is nice when the evenings cool off

Many meals cooked on that BBQ

Pool

The closest pool to my in-laws house was adult only so my sister-in-law and I went a few times during nap time or in the evening while our amazing mother-in-law watched the girls. Heavenly!

Some family friends have a house nearby with a pool so we went over there a couple afternoons so the babies could have some pool time. Audrey LOVED the water!! She was splashing and kicking like crazy. She was even accidentally dunked under the water and didn't swallow any water or bat an eye. Water baby!

Shopping

Target, Kohl's, outlet malls, even the grocery stores were awesome!! It's a bit challenging shopping with babies but we made it work. Audrey got completely spoiled and has a whole new wardrobe. Hubby found a bunch of decent deals. I was the major bargain hunter and while I didn't buy too many things for myself, most of it was at a great discount which makes me happy! I got 2 dresses from Target, 2 sweaters, tank tops and a brown pair of boots!

I can't wait until Target opens in Canada!

One thing that I did find is that with 9% sales tax a bargain often ended up being the same or more than what an item would cost at home. I was none too impressed when we got home and I realized that we spent more for hubby's Levi jeans in Arizona than we would have if we bought them at home! And Carter's in the US isn't any cheaper either. Of course I couldn't resist all the cute baby clothes.

Food

I'm pretty sure I gained a few pounds while on vacation! Hubby comes from a family of great cooks so delicious meals were prepared every night. Plus my sister-in-law quite possibly has a sweeter tooth than me so we indulged in daily treats. I don't regret a single calorie consumed though!

Chowing down on one of Great-Grandpa's famous ribs!

Measuring spoons= best toy ever!
Maybe she will bake me a cake!

Excursions

We went to the Arizona State Fair one afternoon. It was similar to the Calgary Stampede, minus the rodeo obviously. Lots of midway rides, fair food and exhibits. The highlight for us was the animals!

I thought of you Kristen!
I didn't try it though

Keeping hydrated in the 33C heat!

A small Saddledome!

On our last day we did some hiking at the White Tank Mountain Regional Park which is about 15 minutes from my in-laws' house. Very beautiful desert landscape.

Running

Normally I don't really like running in the heat but when it's cold and snowy at home, 33C doesn't seem so bad! I was just happy to not be falling on ice every few steps! We sort of had a routine down that when the girls went down for their morning nap, my mother-in-law would hold the fort while my sister-in-law and I went for a run. We stuck to 2-3 routes since the community is quite confusing and easy to get lost in. We did either 5.5K or 4K 2-3 times a week. My sister-in-law is faster than me so it was nice to have someone to push me. We had lots of great talks on those runs and it was great to have one another to motivate us to get out the door on the days we didn't feel like running. I will miss those runs!

Oh and we also wear the same running shoes! I thought that was pretty funny!

Not too sure what this cactus is called
but I love it's purple colour

Future runner and shoe addict!
Yes, she is my daughter!

Relaxing

The nice thing about this vacation was that we didn't always have to do something. We spent a few days just relaxing at the house suntanning, reading-- I finished 3 books down there, enjoying a bevy or two, going for walks, watching TV in the evenings after the girls went to bed, great conversations and many laughs.

The girls are at the age where they interact a little more with one another. Audrey loved her cousin and would squeal every time she saw her. Car rides were sometimes interesting when one would cry and the other would chime in. A chorus of crying babies!

Family

Of course the best part was spending time together as a family. We are very blessed to have a great family that we want to spend time with. We even got to Skype with our globe-trotting brother and sister-in-law while they were in Malaysia.

Since we weren't able to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving together in October we just had a big turkey dinner the day before we left! A bunch of family friends also came over and indulged. I love that we get big turkey dinners 3 months in a row!

Two little girls are dressed up to go shopping!
Gotta be where ever L is!
