~Halloween in Hot Phoenix~

Once again, we are in Phoenix for Halloween. We spent Audrey's first Halloween here and now Leo's first Halloween.

We dressed up the kids in their costumes and headed to the neighbours, before dinner. Grandma had dropped off some candy ahead of time (a 55+ community isn't usually prepared for trick or treaters) so they got to experience a small taste of Trick or Treating.

Pretty much impossible to get a good shot of either of them! Poor Leo was sweltering in his fleece costume- more appropriate for a Canadian Halloween than an Arizona one.

The neighbours were so excited to see the kids all dressed up. We prepped Audrey to say "Trick or Treat" but of course she was too shy when we knocked on the doors.

While I am not complaining at all about the hot weather and how lucky we are to be here right now, I do miss what Halloween and Trick or Treating would have been like at home. Audrey had so much fun last year (I missed it because I had prenatal yoga that night) and I think she would have had a blast this year, in our neighbourhood, with all the other kids dressed up also. Next year...

I'm also missing the leftover Halloween candy.

I am not missing the snow back home! :)

~Halloween Bash & Weekend Recap~

I hosted a children's Halloween Party on Friday. We will be in Phoenix during Halloween and I wanted an excuse to dress the kids up!

Audrey went as Dorothy and Leo went as a lion. I had grand plans of dressing up as Glinda to round out the Wizard of Oz theme but I didn't have time to wrestle into my gown and I wasn't sure how well I could nurse in it so I opted to be a witch.

Thanks for the picture Alison!

A small group of mom friends and babies & toddlers came. It was so adorable to see all the kids dressed up and almost all the moms dressed up too! I didn't get too many pictures as it was a bit chaotic with all the kids running around.

It was lots of fun, despite my Pinterest fails and making wayyyy too much food. I always think I'm feeding an army. I've been on a sugar high the entire weekend!

Saturday was another jam packed day! Our best friends, whom we haven't seen in ages (June?) came over for brunch. It was so nice to see them again and we promised to not go that long between visits again. We managed to have a nice visit, despite Leo being grumpy. He cut another tooth and just was out of sorts.

After they left, we walked over to the Farmers Market for coffee. They were also putting on some Halloween activities for the kids so Audrey participated in a few. She insisted on wearing her Halloween costume all morning!

She loved the Pumpkin Bowling! Or gourds as Audrey called them!

In the afternoon, we went to a cousin's 2nd birthday party! There were lots of kids and it was total chaos but fun! Audrey had a blast!

On Sunday morning, we went to the Running Room for our first Sunday group run in a long time! Leo's first time running with us! I completely forgot how to dress for 3C but I managed to dress appropriately and not freeze or overheat. It was a good 7K. My knee didn't hurt but it felt twinge-y so I'll have to keep an eye on it. Leo fell asleep and Audrey played happily on the iPad so it was a good experience for everyone! It was definitely harder for hubby to push 2 kids vs just Audrey but he did pretty good!

The rest of the day I did laundry and packed since we are leaving in a couple days for Phoenix. I'm not sure how we are going to stay within the weight limit because I can't seem to pack lightly!

~ I'm loving Halloween this year!! Audrey is old enough to "get" it so we have been having fun doing crafts, decorating the house and wearing costumes! If only I didn't forget my camera at the Momstown Costume Parade yesterday :( I never forget my phone but the ONE time I really want to take a picture, I do. Good thing I'm having a small party this week so I have another opportunity to dress the kids up and take pictures.

~ I'm loving that next week I'll be on vacation! So excited to get away, enjoy the heat and have a change of pace. Anyone want to pack for me though? I really need to get started on that...

~ I'm loving that I was able to hang out with my mom and sister on Monday for a few hours. They both had the day off so we met up, with the kids in tow of course. I don't get to spend nearly as much time with them so it's nice when our schedules allow it.

~ I'm loving the current silence as Leo sleeps and Audrey is at the day home. It's rare that it's so quiet I can hear the clock tick! Oh the little things!

~ I'm loving that I had my first run with the Half Marathon clinic yesterday and my knee feels fine! I stretched my hip flexors out which I think is part of the issue. Fingers crossed this continues and I can finally train again for a half in the new year!

~ I'm loving the gorillas at the Zoo. The last couple of times we have been there they have been very interactive with the visitors. Audrey loves them! The Mandrills on the other hand kept charging us and being aggressive. Audrey kept telling me she was scared.

~A Little Bit About Moi~

1. I wish I spoke French. I technically, according to my high school diploma, can speak French but I never could. Even with As in my class, I was just never comfortable speaking the language. This is part of the reason why I want to send my children to French Immersion. Hubby did French Immersion and the first time I heard him speak French I was sort of wowed.

2. Growing up I loved to read. I still do but I don't find as much time to do it anymore. I could spend less time on the internet reading but I inevitably get sucked into something on my phone while sitting in bed. So I hope to read a few books while on vacation. Half the time I reach for my Kobo and it's dead, from lack of use!

3. When I was a pre-teen I was slightly obsessed with Anne of Green Gables. I read all the books (there are 8 and I wish I still had my set), and watched the movies. I even made my family check out Lucy Maud Montgomery's house when we were in PEI when I was 13! I also wanted to name my future children after characters in the books! And no, there aren't any Audrey or Leo's in the books, that I recall anyway!

4. Being dairy-free is hard. It severely limits the treats I can have and cheesy entrees. I don't know how people do this forever! I could never do Paleo! And nutritional yeast is not the same.

5. I ate Malaysian food for the first time last week. It was delicious, although a tad spicy for my liking.

6. The messy bun is my new fav hair style. Even though doing my hair doesn't take too long, thanks to curlers, but when I wear it down Leo pulls on it, it gets stuck in my scarf, I get a rat's nest at the neck so it's just easiest to toss it up.

7. Current story of my life...

Laundry is my favourite 'chore', (least hated?) but that doesn't mean I want to do 4 loads a day. It really does never end. As soon as I get the laundry baskets emptied, it's time to start all over again.

Tell me something I don't know about you!!

~Thankful Long Weekend~

I can't be anymore grateful for this past long weekend.
So much loveliness in 4 days.

On Friday, I took advantage of the gorgeous fall weather we have been enjoying and took the kids for a walk to the Farmer's Market. The playground there is perfect for Audrey and I was happy to find out that Phil & Sebastian's does make a soy latte! My day was made!

"Noooo! Don't take my picture!"

Best buddies in the Chariot- even if they don't look it here!

I also enjoyed a wonderful yoga class in the evening. Perfect start to the long weekend of thankfulness.

Saturday we went to 3 different grocery stores to get the ingredients for the Thanksgiving Dinner we were hosting for my family on Sunday. Well, Audrey and hubby went to 3, Leo and I only joined for the last one. Shockingly, Costco wasn't a complete zoo but as usual we spent a lot of money. Sometimes I wish that store wasn't so close to us! We should be good for a couple months though, especially with our upcoming trip.

We went to South St. Burgers for lunch. I quite enjoy that place. Leo was giving lots of hugs and kisses.

Sunday morning we started prepping for turkey dinner. Hubby did most of it, as usual, and did an outstanding job. He even almost lost a finger carving the turkey :/ Thankfully stitches weren't required. My leftover gauze from my wisdom teeth surgery came in handy though!

Nearly impossible to get a good shot of these two. Professional I am not.

It was great hanging out with my family. My nieces and nephew do such a great job entertaining their cousins, which makes the evening so much more relaxing for me. We enjoyed great conversation, tons of delicious food and some good wine. Perfect evening to give thanks for all our blessings.

On Monday morning, we went to Cobb's Corn Maze. We were joined by a long-time friend, K, who lives out of town and we haven't seen in far too long. It was so nice to catch up with her, reminisce about the old days and just pick up where we left off. I've met some pretty amazing people over the years and she is definitely one of them. Love you girl!!

This slide scared Audrey so much! She flipped over onto her belly halfway down!

That night we went over to the in-laws for another filling and delicious turkey dinner. Once again we were surrounded by family and friends that we are so thankful for. Everyone moment we can spend together is precious.

This guy has the best expressions!

The weather was gorgeous the entire weekend. It couldn't have been better.

Happy Thanksgiving!!
