Oh it's been a tough week here with teething (Leo), tantrums (Audrey) and time outs (Audrey) so I'm taking the easy way out and sharing some random thoughts and photos today. That's just about all my brain can handle right now ;)

I was pretty pumped to get a cute, smiling photo of this girl on a swing while at the park this week.

What a goof- playing with her Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head family!

We went to Winners the other day and the book section kept her occupied for a bit! Love it!

He looks content here but really he just wanted out or more food or something...

She loves the chiro office because they have a water cooler. She enjoys drinking from the paper cups!

Playing in the toy box at the chiro office while I get fixed up from my fall. So happy they are kid friendly or else I would never get there!

Waiting to get fixed up at the chiro office so perfect opportunity for a selfie ;)

This girl was game to help me make a cake for Leo's "cake smash." She may have gotten batter on her hair while trying to grab a beater...

Later on I iced the cake. Mmmmm buttercream!

Saw this book at Chapters the other day. So funny, except when it's true!

Leo and I on our last "Mommy and Leo Wednesday" since Audrey won't be going to the day home in February.

I've signed up for another race! I'll be doing the Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women 5K in May. My sister will be doing it with me and we are part of the Country Hills Running Room team. I'm so excited! I'm trying to convince my sister to wear a tutu with me...

In one week my baby turns one! How is that possible? Insert waterfall of tears.

Normally I'm excited for Friday but hubby has to work a lot this weekend so I'm kind of dreading it. No break for mama over here! I'm still hoping I can get out for yoga and my group run.

Ok tell me something random!

~Run For L'Arche: My Running Attire Guide~

This week kicks off the start of my official training for the Run For L'Arche 5 Mile.
You can see my training plan here.

I don't know about you, but I always spend lots of time agonizing over what to wear for a run or race. I don't like to be cold but I greatly dislike being warm on a run and either sweating under layers or wearing a bunch of extra clothes around my waist. I figured I would compile my guide of what I wear for each temperature range and hopefully it will help others. I will definitely be referring back to it for future runs so that maybe I will spend less time trying to  decide out what to wear!

There are a lot of factors when trying to decide on what to wear- temperature at the start and finish of your run, precipitation, and wind. What you wear on one 10C run one day might differ from the next depending on if it's windy out, sun is shining, or the possibility of rain.

Note all the clothes I wear are made of technical fabrics that wick sweat away from your body. No cotton here! While it may look like it, this post was not sponsored by Lululemon! I just really like their clothes! I wish I was sponsored to write about them because I certainly have enough of their stuff!

~ Tank top, running skirt or shorts, headband

~ Tank top or t-shirt, running skirt or shorts and headband

~ Tank top, capris and headband

~ T-Shirt and capris and headband

~ Thin long sleeve shirt, capris, running vest (if windy) and headband

~ Thin long sleeve shirt, jacket (mine is thicker), long tights, warm headband and gloves (the last two are just to start- I normally take them off once I've warmed up)

~ Tank top, thicker long sleeve shirt, long tights, warm headband and gloves

~ Thick long sleeve shirt, tank top, jacket, long tights, neck buff, warm headband, gloves

-15- -10C
~ 2 long sleeve shirts, jacket, warm long tights, hat, neck buff, warm gloves, warm socks

-25- -15C
~ Short sleeve shirt, 2 long sleeve shirts, jacket, base layer pants, warmest tights, hat, neck buff, warm gloves with hand warmers, and wool socks

~ Tank top and running skirt since I'll likely be running indoors on the treadmill!

Hope that helps solve some of the mystery of what to wear when running.

Another rule of thumb that I use is if you are a bit chilly when you first go outside then you are dressed right since you will heat up soon after you start running. If you aren't cold when you first head out then you are going to overheat.

The key is to find out what works for you. Some people are comfortable wearing shorts when it's 5C, I am not! I greatly dislike wearing extra clothes around my waist since I already wear a water belt on my runs so I really try to avoid overdressing, even if that means being a tad chilly at the start.

Regardless of what you decide to wear on each run, it's also important to have dry clothes to change into after your run. Nothing worse than going for breakfast or even driving home in sweaty, cold clothes, especially when it's super cold outside!

If you have any questions, let me know!

~Weekend Recap~

Weekend is over :( Wahhhhh! Monday, why must you come so soon?

Friday was fairly uneventful. The kids and I went grocery shopping and to the Dollarstore in the morning. In the evening, Uncle D came over for dinner. The kids enjoyed playing with him. Audrey insisted that he put her to bed! Her new thing is to turn the lights on in her room after we leave and play in her bed or read some books. When did she go from turning three to thirteen? A couple nights in a row we have found her fast asleep, but with the lights on!

I went to yoga which was a great class! I finally feel like I am making some progress in my practice. I'm getting stronger, willing to go further in poses and just feeling really good. The class was packed too.

Saturday we all slept in till 8am which was wonderful! Leo has been waking a few times in the night due to teething so the sleep in was needed.

In the morning, hubby and Audrey went grocery shopping while Leo and I hung out at home and did some birthday party prep. Making progress!

In the afternoon, we headed out for swimming lessons. Still am not super impressed with the programming and the pool was so cold this week too! I talked to another mom and she said when she did this class with her first child 2 years ago it was much better.

Leo caged in while I change!

One tired little boy after swimming!

Both kids were exhausted after and fell asleep in the car, which rarely happens with Audrey anymore. She transferred fine to her bed but Leo did not so he was a bit grumpy due to his short nap. He helped me do more party prep.

We went for dinner to Boston Pizza, always kid friendly! It's nice to not have to clean up after a meal once and awhile! I ate so much unhealthy food- it was so good. Nice to have cheese after not being able to have it for 5 months. I made the excuse that I was carb loading for my long run the next day ;)

Mmm, ribs!

Sunday morning everyone woke up early, despite the late night. I met my running group for our 20km run. It was such a gorgeous day outside!

9C isn't bad for January!

We ran from McKnight Blvd to Centre Street, past the Zoo, on the Nose Creek pathways. Great route, although a bit icy due to the melting and freezing. Lots of runners and cyclists out!

I was having such an awesome run- great pace, legs felt so good, mind was happy, couldn't ask for better weather and fabulous company as always! It's pretty rare that I can wear capris for an outdoor run in January! Might have been a first!

Around 15K mark, with Telus Spark in the background.

Then a kilometre later, I spotted a patch of ice, starting walking and my feet flew out from under me. I landed on my butt, then smacked my head on the ground and slide down the hill. It hurt! After a minute, Penny helped me up and we walked for a short bit, to get past all the ice. My shoulder and neck hurt the worst- I must have pulled something when I hit my head.

My legs didn't hurt at all but my shoulder and neck made it hard to run. If I had to fall, I'm glad it was closer to the finish than the start. We still made it back in decent time and I'm confident that given the right weather conditions I will have a great race in two weeks.

Temperature at the end of my run! Not bad!

Once we made it back to our cars, we headed to Denny's for some brunch. I had the most epic pancakes with chocolate chips, chocolate sauce and peanut butter! Yum!!

While I was out running, hubby took the kids to the Zoo. He said it was the busiest he has seen it in a long time- everyone wanted to take advantage of the sunny, warm January weather! They had lots of fun and I missed them a lot!

Once again, the kids fell asleep on the car ride home and both transferred to their beds. I spent the afternoon icing my shoulder/neck and working on blog posts. Hubby took down the Christmas lights, cleaned out the garage and installed Audrey's new carseats, since it's almost time for Leo to graduate to the convertible seat :(

After they woke up, we went for dinner to Uncle C and Auntie L's house. They made us delicious pizza and cake! Sooooo good!

Such a good weekend! I've already placed my order for nice weather in two weeks for my race!

~Throwback Thursday~

I'm feeling very nostalgic as I sit here and plan a birthday party for my almost 3 and 1 year old! So much has changed in such a short time! I can barely remember life before children so I guess that's a good thing!

Last year, at this time, I was finishing up my last couple weeks of work, as we eagerly awaited the arrival of Leo. There were concerns about his size (small) and his breech presentation. So much stress, anticipation, and excitement. In the end, he turned out just fine, came when he was supposed to and there was nothing to worry about!

My post, one year ago is here.  I was 36 weeks pregnant, with a honeydew in my belly!

(I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss that belly! Not so much the leg cramps and multiple middle-of-the-night pee breaks though.)

And to throw it back even farther, two years ago, this little girl was just turning 11 months!! You can read about it here if you want. It's crazy the similarities between her and Leo!

Since we are at it, let's go back three years, when my bestie threw me a baby shower for Audrey! Feels like yesterday!

Crazy how fast time goes by!

What were you doing 1, 2, and 3 years ago?
