~SDM Run for Women 5K Race Report~

The Country Hills Running Room (CHRR) put together a team for the Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women- our final count was 51 people. We were the largest team in Canada! We dressed up in tutus, with even a few male team members participating!

The run was held at Edworthy Park. Since there wasn't much parking there, a bunch of us met at 7am and carpooled to get a parking spot. The race didn't start until 9:15 so we were there early!

The day started off a bit cool, especially close to the river. I'm glad I wore my sweater or else I would have frozen!

One goal for this race was to take lots of pictures! I managed to achieve that without too much issue!

Trying different ways of wearing our tutus!

We waited around for what seemed like forever but we had lots of people to talk to and the race organizers did a good job of keeping everyone entertained.

I probably should have brought some extra food- by the time the race started I was hungry again! I had a couple Power chews but since I hadn't tried them before I was a bit hesitant to eat too many in case they didn't agree with me.

The Kids 1K race was first. It was pretty cute to see them all running! If it wasn't such a logistical nightmare (having to be at the race so early, lack of parking) then I would have signed Audrey up. Maybe next year!

The 10K started next and most of our team was doing it.

Lined up and ready to GO!

Finally it was time for the 5K to start. I did not properly seed myself so I had a lot of walkers to dodge at the beginning. It was a tight running chute and I was closer to the middle-back. I started to stress in the first kilometer because I was not running at my goal pace and I was losing precious time! My goal was to go sub 30 minutes and I knew every second counted!

Thankfully by the 2nd KM things spread out so I was able to run comfortably at my goal pace. It was a struggle though. Mentally I was stuck on the fact that my first KM was 20-30 seconds slower than I wanted it to be and I didn't have any room to slow down at all. I was breathing hard the entire race!

It had also warmed up quite a bit by the time the race started. The sun was beating down on us. HOT!

I got a lot of compliments on my tutu while I was running! I will admit it was a bit of a pain- it kept getting stuck between my legs but it wasn't uncomfortable, I just didn't know if it looked funny or not! It won't deter me from wearing a tutu for another race! I can't easily wear a tutu and a water belt since I wear my belt so low so I'm not sure I would wear it for anything longer than a 5K though.

There was a water station at the turn around (~3K) so I had a quick sip.

On the way back I started passing a lot of people. I looked at my watch and it said 3.82K- the end was close! A quick calculation made me realize that I would be under 30 minutes if I kept that pace.

On the way back is when we started seeing the 10K runners. It was so nice to see some of my fellow team mates!

In no time, I was back at the bridge to cross back into Edworthy Park. The end was so close!

The finishing chute was a lot less crowded this time! It was sweet relief when I crossed that finish line!

Final results:

Chip Time: 28:53
Gun Time: 28:53
Division Placement: 10/145
Overall 5K Placement: 58/595

Woohoo!!! I did it!! With plenty of time to spare!

Why I have the same gun time and chip time I'm not sure. I noticed when looking at the results that some other people did as well. My Garmin time said 28:07 but I also messed it up at the start so it took a few seconds to connect. Either way, I am more than thrilled with my time!

At the finish line, we were handed these pretty bracelets! Makes up for not getting a medal!

I stuck close to the finish line so that I could see my friends finish. Good thing because I managed to see Kaella finish! She had an awesome 10K race with a PR too! It was so nice to finally meet her and London!

After the race, I signed the message board. I love this idea! So many inspiring things were written here.

Grabbed some post-race food and iced coffee courtesy of McDonalds!

Watched a few more of our team mates finish! We were easy to spot!

Team CHRR- posing for a photo- always entertaining!

This was the swag bag- bag, nice technical shirt and finisher's bracelet!

I had such a blast doing this race!! I am definitely doing it next year and highly recommend it to anyone! Tutus are a must! Who's with me??

~Weekend Recap~

What a beautiful weekend it was! We spent as much of it outside as we could.

Thursday we went to the Zoo with a friend and her daughter. Audrey and Iris had so much fun/trouble together! It was such a nice day- I think we would live at the Zoo if we could!

That evening Great- Grandma was in town so we had dinner with the family. The kids found another victim to read them stories- I think GG was more than happy to oblige!

Friday was a relaxing day at home. I did my last run before my race on Sunday, with the kids in tow. We ended up at the park as usual.

Someone devoured his lunch! There was quite a mess all.over.the.place!

I finally went to yoga after a few weeks break. I so needed it. I can tell I've been running lots and not doing much yoga because my body is tight! Must make a chiro appointment ASAP!

I convinced my friend, A, to join me. We haven't seen each other in a couple months (darn work!) so it was great to catch up. We may have stayed out way too late chatting in her car after we were kicked out of Good Earth! Can't wait for our weekend away in a few weeks!

Saturday hubby went fishing with his dad. Grandma picked up Audrey to take her to dance class, despite her not wanting to go at first! She then spent the morning at Grandma's helping her plant flowers.

Leo and I went to my niece's baseball game to cheer her on. It was fun to watch and Leo enjoyed cheering! He would clap every time someone else would so sometimes he cheered for the wrong team!

We had a chill night- had some ice cream, played in the backyard, and bird watched.

Getting sand in the grass...

Sunday morning was race day for me! I did the Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women 5K. I'll post a recap later this week with details of the race. Spoiler alert- I PR'd!! I also got to meet Kaella which was really nice!

I didn't get back home until 1:30pm. I didn't have any motivation to do anything all afternoon so I just watched Little Mermaid with Audrey and then hung out in the backyard while hubby did some gardening. My kind of Sunday!

I was pretty bagged so I watched a show and went to bed early-ish. All the fresh air and sunshine made me tired!

~SDM Run for Women 5K Race Goals~

Tomorrow is race day!!

My training has been going relatively well for this 5K race. The 10K coming up in a couple weeks... that's another story;)

My goals for this race are pretty simple:

1. Finish sub 30 minutes. Totally doable.

2. Have a great time with my team!! My CHRR running group is the BEST and I am so excited to do this run with them! Most of them are doing the 10K so I will be their biggest cheerleader at the finish line!!

3. Take lots of pictures!

The weather is supposed to be just gorgeous! I can't wait to run in my tutu!!

~May Long Weekend Recap~

Guy, it happened again! I blinked and the weekend is over! Please let me know if you have any secrets on how to STOP that!

We had a pretty laid back long weekend- it was actually kind of perfect that way! The weather wasn't the greatest but since we weren't camping or had any major outdoorsy plans it wasn't a big deal.

Thursday the kids and I just ran some errands. Which involved Leo getting a football. Highlight of his life!

He has also started climbing up everything! He has no fear! Heart attack central for mama!

There was some pirate ship building happening as well- aka destroy Mom's house. Whatever keeps them entertained and safe...

Friday was fairly uneventful- a few tantrums and playing with any kitchen utensil he can get his hands on! No need to buy him any new toys- a spatula will do!

We did have some friends over for dinner that we hadn't seen in a long time! I hate when life gets in the way and that happens! They hadn't even met Leo before! They are now expecting their first baby this summer. I wish I had taken pictures of Audrey bossing J around in the kitchen... she kept us entertained!

Saturday was errand day. It started snowing so we stayed inside for most of the day. Can't be May Long without some rain or snow! I'm just glad I wasn't camping!

My bestie came over for dinner. We spent the evening talking about babies (she found out she's having a girl last week) and how our lives have changed! Mostly good changes though!

Sunday the weather cleared up so we spent some more time outside. Finally! I met up with a friend for a 10K run/walk. It was so nice to catch up with K and having company made it much better! I even got a sunburn on my neck and chest because I forgot to put on sunscreen! Oops!

Hubby and the kids were doing some gardening when I got back.

Can you tell he's the 2nd child? Sure, eat some dirt! He was less than impressed when I told him he couldn't eat rocks though.

Monday we checked out Bowness Park. It's still under renovations after the 2013 flood so a lot of the paths weren't open yet. Audrey just wanted to play on the playground anyway! It was busy too!

Leo had a bit of fun too! He's destroying his pants with all his crawling though! Oh look, a spatula in his hand...

I also managed to check off a couple things from my To-Do list during nap time that have been bothering me for awhile- I finally got around to finishing and ordering our 2014 photo book and I added photos to Leo's baby book (although I still have more to do!). It feels sooooo good to have crossed these things off the list!

Now I need to start working on Leo's first year photobook. I'm dreading this, especially with the recent changed to iPhoto/Photos. I need to do it though!

After dinner, we went for a walk/bike ride to the park. Audrey alternates between riding her bike and pushing it... She's getting a lot more comfortable but I think sometimes she gets tired so she needs a break.

Can't resist taking a photo of this happy guy!

That wraps up our relaxing long weekend! I'm so excited to have a short week! Work is crazy busy though.
