~RNR Las Vegas Half Marathon Training Update~

It's almost time for the Rock n' Roll Las Vegas half marathon! I am so excited for this race, the trip and getting away with hubby!

Normally when it comes to training programs lately, I just pull up an old Running Room half marathon plan, tweek it a bit and follow it. Initially that was my plan with this half marathon, until Angela at Cowgirl Runs mentioned she was looking for someone to coach. I said I was interested and while she had found someone already, she was willing to coach me for more experience!

I gave her a bunch of my running history and she put together a plan for me. Normally I know my full plan from the very start so I decided to try something different and only know my schedule a week or two in advance. I will admit the planner in me is having a hard time not knowing my full schedule but it's been going well overall!

Angela has really helped me figure out what pace I should be running at for each of my runs. She's also been great at encouraging me and helping me find solutions when a run doesn't go quite as planned! Overall I am enjoying working with her! Thanks Angela!

So it seems all my week day runs are on the treadmill. By the time I get the kids to bed, it's dark out and often hubby isn't home so I can't very well leave the kids alone, even if they are sleeping! Some treadmill runs are better than others- I've been listening to training calls or music or watching Suits a bit more to keep me entertained. It's just so easy to jump on the rails for a quick break!

Note- I like purple running clothes! ;)

My long runs have been pretty good! Since the CHRR half marathon group just did their goal race last weekend, I haven't been able to train much with them since our schedules were quite off. I am not good at running long runs solo so I try to recruit some poor soul to join me! It's been nice to catch up with friends during these runs. I appreciate all the friendships I have made through running! I hope they don't mind that I talk their ears off!

I will admit that I REALLY miss running with the CHRR half marathon clinic. Having their support for each run, especially the long runs, is huge for me and I've definitely noticed a difference in my motivation to run this training cycle. Maybe next year I will be able to run with them again!

Just a couple more weeks (and long runs!) until race day!! I'm pretty excited to experience this race- it's going to be huge!! Runners taking over Las Vegas!

What was your favourite destination race?
What is your Vegas must-see??

~Weekend Recap~

Well frick-- I thought I had hit 'publish' on this post on Monday and yet I found it sitting in my drafts! Better late than never!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Monday= back to the grind! I struggled waking up this morning and I went to bed early last night!??! Won't be doing that again ;)

Huge birthday wishes to Leigh!! Hope you have a great day and Amelia naps better for you!

Our weekend was a mix of crazy busy and relaxing.

Thursday was a relatively quiet day. The kids and I headed out to try to find a new Halloween costume for Leo as I was 2nd guessing his hand-me-down one. No luck finding anything different.

The rest of the day was 'quietly' (haha) spent colouring and decorating for Halloween.

Leo's latest obsession is with eating crayons! Yuck!

This girl was so excited about the spider decorations! She said this is her pet spider and sleeps in her bed. Creepy!!

We did some housework...

Friday we had some morning drama. Leo tried on his hand-me-down costume and big sister decided she wanted to be a leopard now! Leo loves his costume so I guess I won't worry about finding him a different one, although I did take the pink bow off the ear.

We met up with Alison and Delainey for our "traditional" Menchies-before-baby lunch date. Thankfully her baby boy wasn't born the next day like mine was ;) The kids enjoyed the ice cream and chalkboard.

Leo wanted to give Delainey a hug and kiss goodbye but she wanted none of it! Playing hard to get!

Have I mentioned that Leo still loves this stroller? Every day there is a new toy or stuffie being pushed around our house!

Saturday I had a hair appointment. Enjoyed the relaxing morning!

I went a bit darker, with a few more layers. I'm still getting used to it (and it's not even a big change!).

While I was getting my hair done, hubby took the kids to the community Halloween Party. They didn't stay long since it was chilly out.

Leo enjoyed the Fire truck and the cookies!

When I got home I saw Leo had left some artwork on the wall. Seriously you can't turn your back for a second with this kid and crayons anymore! It was all over the coffee table, wall and kitchen table! Thank gawd it wasn't marker or I'd still be crying!

Audrey and Leo's artwork hanging up... and Leo's wall art below.

I let Audrey paint while Leo napped. No way I was letting him paint after his earlier stunt! I'd still be cleaning up!

Dinner was still frozen solid so we went out instead! Mommy just didn't want to clean up after another meal! Leo wanted to "cheers" with his cup.

I think he was saying "juice" here. Audrey had some and he wanted some too!

Sunday morning we dropped the kids off with Auntie L and Uncle C. We were going to look at houses and do our 17KM run.

Turns out the kids had a lot more fun than we did!

We looked at 5 houses- if we could have taken parts of one house, add them to another and the lot of another then we would have found the perfect place! Alas that's not how it works so the hunt continues. We are time, I just need to be patient!

We did our long run in the communities that we are looking at buying in. I can say that if we move to one of those communities my running will get way faster because it's super hilly! My legs are soooo sore! You could not avoid the hills at all.

That night we relaxed and hung out. We were all tired from our busy day and I was too sore to do much else than watch Suits and call it an early bed time!

I wish the kids had made us dinner!

Audrey cutting her food! Leo dumping his food all over the ground, as usual!

So far this week is off to an interesting start! I had to go home after being at work for only an hour because hubby left his keys in my purse and couldn't go anywhere! The day got better after that though!

~Weekend Recap: Houses, Market, Birthday~

We sure know how to cram as much activity into a few days as possible! We like keeping busy though!

Thursday we actually had a low key day! We hung around the house, played lots & made huge messes!

Audrey convinced Leo to sit in the empty toy bin and wrapped him in blankets! He's so patient with his sister's ideas, usually!

Like when she puts stickers on his face!

That evening, my father-in-law came over to entertain the kids while hubby and I went on a house hunting adventure. He is now a licensed realtor so he wanted to get some practice setting up appointments and we wanted to check out some neighborhoods where we are thinking of moving to.

There was only one house that I really wanted to see and had we been in a rush to move then it would have been 95% perfect. Since we aren't in a rush, we are willing to wait to see what else comes on the market and hopefully the perfect (for us) home will come available. We definitely got a better sense of what we want, what we don't want, and the neighborhoods. It also makes me not want to go through the process of getting my house ready to sell!
Afterwards we headed to a nearby pub for some dinner and we ran into some friends who also live in the area! We chatted with them for awhile and they raved about the area so that's reassuring.

Friday we met up with Alison and Delainey for a coffee and playdate at the market. It ended up being a perfect morning so the kids played on the outdoor playground for awhile. So fun to visit, enjoy Phil & Sebastian's coffee and watch the kids play!

Saturday we had another date at the market! The weather has been unseasonably warm so we had to take advantage and the market is close by, we can grab some coffee, groceries and the kids LOVE it there!

Short but lovely date with my best maternity leave mama and her sweet girlie!

Sad attempt at a photo of our 3 little ones-- at least they are all in the picture!

Sunday morning I met up with my friend for my long run. It was a gorgeous morning and my run went well! It went by quickly having someone to talk to. Less than a month until Las Vegas!!

When I came home I had to laugh at Leo's predicament! Poor long and skinny boy! Time to pack these pants away! They are 12-18m and they are huge in the waist- even with a cloth diaper on they slowly creep down and they have no chance of staying up with a disposable!

It was my mother-in-law's 60th birthday so we hosted the family for her birthday party.

Audrey and Linda helping Auntie ice the cake!

Helping Grandma open her presents!

Helping Grandma blow out her candles!

It was a fun evening celebrating a wonderful person! Perfect way to end the weekend!

~Thanksgiving 2015~

So much to be grateful this year!! It has been an amazing year and what better way to spend the weekend than with family!!

I was lucky enough to have a 5 day weekend! My short work week is one thing I am beyond grateful for-- not everyone has the opportunity to have the best of both world's- a great career (part-time), a fantastic side business and the ability to have lots of time at home with my little ones! This is one thing I severely lacked when I first went back to work after Audrey so I am so so happy that we have been able to make this work.

The long long weekend started off on Thursday. The weather has been great the last week so we took advantage and headed to the Zoo. I know- huge shock! I really wanted to check out more of the Illuminasia display and we all loved it! We need to go back in the next couple weeks to see it at night, when it's all lite up!

Our friends joined us and the little girls (and Leo) had a blast! The monkeys were being crazy-- jumping and banging on the glass. Really interactive!

For all the times we have been to the Zoo, we have never seen a Tiger Training Presentation. It was pretty neat to watch the trainer interact with this huge cat!

Friday was errand day. We braved Costco which ended up not being too bad. Good thing we have the van because all this stuff would never have fit in my SUV! I could have bought more too but there wasn't enough room in the cart!

Audrey's passport arrived in the mail so she can travel with us to Phoenix next month!

Saturday was a busy day getting ready for our Thanksgiving Dinner with my family. We had to pick up the Turkey, go to the grocery store and the Farmer's Market!

Leo loves the playground at the Farmer's Market! Just have to watch him since he likes to go down the slide head first!

We had a great dinner with my family! I didn't take many pictures- too busy eating?? Probably!

My niece was sitting on the floor, playing with her tablet and Leo sat beside her and played with his ball! Cutest thing ever!!!

My niece offered to help with dishes and Audrey wanted in on the action too! I wasn't about to say no to help!

Sunday morning I met up with Leslie for a run. It was so nice to catch up with her and the time went by much quicker with someone to chat with! Thanks again Leslie- can't wait for our next running date! Good luck with your race this weekend!

When I got home, the family was out buying new smoke detectors since ours decided to let us know in the middle of the night it was time to replace them. We later found out that 3 houses being built 5 minutes from us burned down overnight. Thankfully no one lived in them yet but still pretty devastating for the new home owners and the builders.

Audrey and I had another salon visit for some manicures. She chose the green since it's Daddy's favourite colour! She also informed us that grocery shopping is for boys now and girls just go shopping! Oh no- what have I started?? :)

Monday we went for a short hike in Big Hill Springs Provincial Park. The kids LOVED it! Leo rode in the pack for half of it and then wanted out. It was a beautiful way to spend a nice day!

And yes, Audrey wears dresses and rain boots for hiking. No telling this girl what to wear-- ever!

Leo was not impressed we delayed snack time to take a photo. Clearly we have our priorities all wrong!

Little chipmunk eating his trail mix! I guess he worked up an appetite!

In the afternoon we went over to the in-laws for our 2nd Thanksgiving Dinner.

Always lots to do at Grandma and Grandpa's

The rocking chair is a hit with all the kids!

Leo devoured his pumpkin pie!

Such a good weekend with the whole family! The best part is we don't have to cook at all this week because we have so many leftovers! I'm still stuffed!!

What are you grateful for this Thanksgiving?
