Blonde & Pregnant Runner

On Monday evening, I plugged in my Garmin to make sure it was charged for my Tuesday run. As I mentioned a couple months back, CoCo hasn't been holding a charge as long as she used to.

Well, as soon as I plugged her in, she started beeping and the screen kept flashing to the Garmin info screen. Then it would go blank. It wasn't charging and I tried pushing buttons to turn it off or something to stop the beeping but to no avail. I ended up shoving her in my sock drawer to muffle the beeping as it was driving me nuts! I thought for sure she had officially bit the dust and I was going to be Garmin-less. Sure, it's not like I am using her that much right now but I also don't have $400 to drop on a new Garmin now or even once the baby is born and I get back to running some worthwhile distances.

CoCo continued to beep every 5 seconds for 4+ hours!! I could hear her downstairs even though she was stuffed in a drawer!! I certainly don't get that much notice that she is going to die when I am on a run anymore!

So on Tuesday, I went to plug her in again and see if that made a difference. Nothing... usually it beeps when it starts charging but no beep and nothing showed up on the screen. I looked down at the cord and it wasn't plugged in!!! I never unplug it but I did on the weekend when I was charging the camera battery. Since I was in a rush I didn't re-plug in my Garmin cord like I normally do!!

Was it a blonde moment or pregnancy brain?? Could be either I guess!!

It doesn't explain why my Garmin was going nuts with the beeping/flashing screen but it explains why she wouldn't charge when I plugged her in on Monday!!

I checked her last night (no, I didn't run as the morning sickness was back in full force) and she was fully charged. So we will see tonight if everything is back to normal. Fingers crossed!!

On another pregnancy note, we heard the baby's heart beat for the first time yesterday at our prenatal appointment!! Babe was moving around lots and the heart rate was around 150bpm!! Best sound ever!!

I also had my midwife sign off on the pregnancy medical examination form for my "Prenatal Gentle Aquatic Fitness" class starting next month. Funny how I need my health care provider to sign off on gentle swimming but I don't need special permission to run!!

15 Weeks: Has Morning Sickness Returned?

How big is Baby N?

Navel Orange

Weight gain? +1 pounds

Maternity Clothing? I bought a couple more things last week so hopefully they will tide me over for a few months. All I can say is they are so much more comfortable than regular clothes and I think I might wear them forever...

Cravings? Nothing really...

Symptoms? The morning sickness seems to have returned this week. I spent last night feeling quite ill and dry heaving a bit. This morning I felt a bit better but suddenly started puking. I think Baby has forgotten that we are in the 2nd trimester now. This better not become a habit!

Sleep? Other than missing my bed on the weekend, no issues with sleep. I haven't been sleeping on my tummy as much but not because of the belly. My growing chest is making it uncomfortable!

Workouts? I was a little busier than I wanted to be last week so I only ended up getting in one prenatal yoga session, 4K run/walk, a Ripped workout, an hour walk with my good friend Kat who is back in town!! and another 30 minute walk in Camrose. Actually, wasn't as slacking as I thought but they were all super low intensity workouts.

What I am excited for? My prenatal appointment this afternoon where we will hopefully hear the baby's heart beat! So far we have seen it twice but never heard it. And of course, the end of September when we find out the baby's gender!!

Memorable Pregnancy Moments? Possibly feeling little baby flutters? I know it's still pretty early but I swear I feel it move every once and awhile.

Pregzilla Moments? Usually in the morning when I realize that what I thought I was going to wear to work no longer fits... hence the recent maternity additions to my closet.

~What I did this Weekend~

Friday, as I mentioned was our 5th Wedding Anniversary!! We dressed up and went to a fancy restaurant downtown called Teatro. The food was delicious and the service was top-notch. They really treated us well and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, fancy restaurant.

5 Years!!!

The sign said Teatro! Eat works too!

My anniversary present!

On Saturday we went up to Camrose to visit hubby's grandparents. We haven't seen them for a few months so it was nice to spend time with them before they snowbird down to the U.S.
We drove back home on Sunday afternoon and I spent the evening doing the regular weekend chores, except crammed into 3 hours instead of 2 days! Boy, was I exhausted but my house is clean, and the fridge is stocked.

What was this weekend lacking? Workouts. I didn't have time to workout on Friday before dinner and we got home far too late. Saturday we ended up leaving 1.5 hours later than planned so there was no workout before hitting the road. We did go for a 30 minute walk so at least I stretched my legs a bit. I hoped to do my yoga DVD on Sunday evening but that didn't happen.

This week should be better for workouts but it is still pretty busy. Unfortunately things are going to get derailed in a couple weeks when we go on yet another BC road trip.

Happy 5th Anniversary to my Love!!

Wow! It's hard to believe that our adventure as a married couple started 5 years ago!

Yes, it was fun!!

Some days it feels like just yesterday and other times it feels like a million years ago (not in a bad way!). I can barely remember life without hubby in it!

~Three Things Thursday~

1. Tomorrow is a special day!! Check back for more details!

2. I bit the bullet and bought a couple more maternity clothes. I tried to get away with wearing some skirts higher up (practically under my boobs!) but they just looked silly. I am seriously not impressed with this city’s selection of expanding-belly clothes! I might have to start wearing hubby’s clothes…

3. No hills for me last night. It was my best friend’s birthday so I went out for drinks (non-alcoholic for me) with her to celebrate. Later at home I did an hour Ripped workout as I have been noticing a lack of tone and increase in flabbiness. I am not talking about in the belly area (that’s expected) but my butt, thighs and arms are getting a tad soft. I wonder if it is possible to get “more” in shape while PG than before being PG? Now that I will have to take it easy with my running, I am going to increase my number of strength workouts.

I also found a pre-natal swim class to join in September! I am hoping this will be the push I need to get back into the pool as I haven’t been for about 6ish months now? Swimming is supposed to be one of the best pre-natal exercises you can do because it doesn’t put any strain on your joints. Now to find a new bathing suit...

*** Blogger is making my life difficult and not letting me comment on a lot of your blogs. Sorry for the lack of love but it says my current account (my email) doesn't have access to view the page and to change accounts? WTF??? Anyone know how to fix this? I haven't changed anything (that I am aware of). I can comment on some blogs and not on others.

Motivation and Setting Some Goals

Last night, at my running clinic we had an excellent guest speaker, James Fell. He is a fitness author, and consultant.

He came to talk to us about motivation and goal setting. His talk was by far one of the best I have heard on the topic because he was very matter-of-fact and entertaining. I can’t remember everything that he talked about (pregnancy brain?) but most importantly he talked about how you have to like what you are doing for exercise in order to be successful at it. If you hate running, then you won’t keep up with it. You might do it for a little while but eventually you will quit. He really dislikes all the fad diets and workouts that promise to leave you 20 pounds lighter after 4 weeks and 20 minutes a day. Those workouts/diets are punishment and how is that supposed to motivate you long term?

He also talked about how society is set up to make us fat. Most restaurants serve food that is unhealthy (full of calories, fat and sugar) but tastes delicious so of course we want to eat it. Who wants to go out and eat at a restaurant that serves crappy food? If it is processed, you probably don’t want to eat it. Plus it’s cheaper to prepare your own meals at home!

James has a website with lots of articles he has published so feel free to check it out if you want to be entertained!

We also set some short and long term goals for ourselves! (I did these on the fly so they aren’t overly thought out which is probably not the best way to go about setting goals).

Short Term: Continue running 3x a week

Long Term: Do a 5 or 10K race by end of October

Reward: New wardrobe! (I think I am going to need this regardless of whether or not I achieve my goals!)

After the talk, we set out to run 5K. I was running with Penny, my instructor who has the same “condition” as me (such a rude way to describe pregnancy!). We took it pretty easy and walked for the middle half as her heart rate was soaring. We ended up doing a 4K walk with some run breaks ;)

Sometimes you just have to listen to your body!

14 Weeks

How big is Baby N? About 3.5 inches and 1.5 ounces. Almost doubled in weight since last week!

Size of a lemon
Not too sure how I feel about this nickname- aren't crappy cars called lemons? Oh well, it's only for a week!

Weight gain? Surprisingly -1 pound. I'll take it!

Maternity Clothing? A couple shirts I ordered online came in. They have 3/4 length sleeves so I haven't worn them yet. My summer maternity wardrobe is getting smaller and smaller! I went through my closet this weekend and put away most of my pre-pregnancy clothes. There are lots of empty hangers now.

Cravings? Doritos when I feel ill.

Symptoms? Wasn't feeling so great yesterday- not sure if it was the return of morning sickness, or a touch of the flu. Hopefully it stays away whatever it was!

Sleep? I have been waking up a bit in the middle of the night but I think that is more related to the heat than anything else. It is exhausting me though.

Workouts? Last week was great! I did 2 runs, 2 yoga workouts and 1 strength training session! Sure hope I can keep this up.

What I am excited for?  Same as last week- end of September when we find out the baby's gender!!

What I miss? Racing (DNS Strathmore Women's Tri on the weekend). I am having a hard time justifying race fees when I know I will be super slow and there isn't a medal at the end! I am such a shallow runner! Haha!

Memorable Pregnancy Moments? Hearing the excitement in our family and friends' voices when they talk about the baby!

Baby Purchases? I have behaved myself but we did receive a cute pair of Baby Uggs for Baby N!

Wish list? Still a DSLR!!

Pregzilla Moments? When hubby took the below picture he told me to stop sticking it out!! I wasn't too impressed by that comment... I'm pregnant, what's his excuse??

~What I did this Weekend~

We were treated to some beautiful and hot weather this weekend!!

Friday I spent the evening lounging around. I did my prenatal yoga DVD which I am starting to like more and more. I spent about 2 hours on hold with Shaw (TV, internet and phone company) trying to cancel some of our services that we don't use. I was on hold for so long that the line finally hung up on me. Gee- no wonder I want to cancel them! Afterwards, hubby and I went for a nice long walk in the neighborhood.

Saturday I slept in while hubby did some power hiking to prepare for the West Coast Trail next month. I did a bunch of chores and a 30 minutes Ripped workout. I haven't done weights since June so my legs were a little achy for the rest of the weekend. It's a good feeling though!
That evening we went over to our good friends' W&A's house for dinner. We spent a few hours snuggling with our goddaughter!

Sunday I opted out of the group long run. They were doing a route that is mostly uphill which means I would have to walk a lot. I was also in need of sleep and a rest day! I originally planned to do a shorter run later in the day but with the thermometer hitting 29C I decided it wasn't worth it.

We went over for dinner at the in-laws. It was so nice to enjoy an evening outside.

Now it's back to the grind at the office...

Outta Control Heart Rate?

After work yesterday, I headed down to the local tri shop to pick up my package for the race I will NOT be doing this weekend. I figure I paid the entry fee, I should at least get the swag!

Since I was busy socializing with some friends on Wednesday night, I missed my group hill training run. I decided to make up the run (not the hill repeats) on Thursday. I ate the goodies in my race package (Vanilla Honey Stinger Waffle- loves these, and Pink Lemonade Honey Stingers) and I was all energized for my run!

I think I'm allowed to wear the race shirt even though I am not doing the race this year because 1) I have done it for the last 3 years in a row and 2) it doesn't have a date on it!! It's the same logo they always use and for once the shirt actually fits me!! For now...

Awkward self-portrait

Close up of shirt and handheld
It was a cooler evening and overcast so perfect for running. I felt pretty good right from the start, but one thing I have been noticing is that my breathing is quite hard at first (and sometimes longer...).

After about 2 minutes I checked my Garmin to see my HR (I try to keep it below 150-155)  and my Garmin said 223. Ummm, am I reading that right? I am pretty sure that I would have been dead or close to it if that was right! I was breathing hard but I didn't feel light headed or that I needed to stop so WTF?? I tried to adjust my HR strap and it still stayed in the 220 range. So I even walked for a minute or two to see if it would go back to normal and it only went down a few beats.

If you View Details of my run, you can see my crazy heart rate chart. Max 235bpm?? I think not.

I think I have figured out what went wrong. CoCo was confused and was adding my HR AND the baby's HR together!! That's the only reasonable explanation... After a few minutes she realized her mistake and went back to just displaying mine. Silly Garmin!!

Has your heart rate monitor ever given you a bizarre reading?

It's a good thing I decided to go for my run when I did as there were some nasty clouds looming in the not so far distance.

Hello hail clouds!
About 5 minutes after I got back, I could hear the thunder rumbling and started closing the open windows in the house as I knew we were in for another summer evening storm.

No sooner did I do that, then the hail started coming down! It was like someone was throwing snowballs at the windows! They were big, but they were smashing apart on impact.

Hope the garden and flowers are okay!
Funny enough, there was a big but faint rainbow spanning the sky while the hail was pelting down.

Rainbow during a hail storm
Seriously this city has the craziest weather...

I bet you this time thunder/hail storm!!!

~Three Things Thursday~

1. I called around to a local running store close to my work and they had a Nathan handheld water bottle in stock! Sweet!! I zoomed over there and snagged the last one.

Mine is black

I am excited to give it a try tonight on my run!! No more uncomfortable water belts for me!

2. My best friend surprised me with a baby gift yesterday!! I can't wait to put these on Baby N!!
Baby Uggs!!

3. So about that Sprint triathlon that is in 3 days... I will be a DNS :(

I thought a lot about whether or not I could do the race and I know that I CAN but I don't think it is a good idea. I have done this race for the last 3 years and I know the route inside and out. It's my lack of recent training ...
  • I could do the run without a problem- it would be slow but I have kept up my training.
  • I haven't been on my bike (sorry BlueBelle!) since June, right after I found out I was PG, and before the morning sickness/fatigue set it.
  • Swimming... haven't been in the pool for a decent workout since the beginning of the year. I know I can swim 500m without any issues, even un-trained but I won't be confident in my ability and I am afraid I will get caught up in the nervousness of the race and drown (ok, a little dramatic).

While I know I could do all three sports individually right this second, I think adding them all together, with transitions and the excitement of race day (I LOVE this race!), is just not a good idea with my babe-on-board and recent lack of training. I am still picking up my race package though...

How do I feel about this?
  • Sad
  • Annoyed for not keeping up with swimming during the first half of the year
  • Very aware of the changes that this babe will make to my/our lives
And the kicker??

Event is SOLD Out- no transfer of entries.

But of all the reasons to miss this race, this is the very best one!! I knew that a DNS was always a possibility when I signed up earlier in the year but I would rather have signed up for the race and risked wasting my $125 non-transferable race fee than not be able to race because it was sold out and I wasn't pregnant like I thought I might be. So I am happy that I can't race because that means I am pregnant!!

I'll be back next year!! Assuming the race doesn't fall on the same weekend as my best friend's wedding.

13 Weeks: And So it Begins!

Hubby and I have waited a long time for this baby so I want to document this pregnancy as much as possible.

How big is Baby N? About 3 inches long and weighs almost an ounce. The head is 1/3 of the size of his/her body! See ultrasound pic below for proof!!

Size of a Peach
As soon as the stick dried, I signed up for weekly emails from The Bump which tell you the growth and approximate size of your baby. They compare the baby's size to a fruit or vegetables each week. Each week our nickname for the baby changes depending on what fruit s/he is comparable to!! So far s/he has been a poppy seed, apple seed, sweet pea, blueberry, raspberry, olive, prune, lime (aka Margarita), plum and now a peach!!

Weight gain? 0 pounds but my body is definitely changing. Loving the little belly but that back fat was not there before and it is not welcome!!

Maternity Clothing? Wearing a combo of maternity clothes and my pre-pregnancy clothes with this fancy sleeve thing called a BellaBand. Life saver! I don't want to buy any summer maternity clothes but it's too warm to be wearing pants. I did buy a maternity black dressy skirt that I can wear now and later with tights when it gets cold out.
I also had to buy a couple workout shirts to "get fat" in. That was an odd experience! Of course maternity workout clothes are super hard to find and/or ridiculously expensive so I just found some stretchy shirts in bigger sizes at my local running store. My shorts are starting to feel a little snug so hopefully I can make them work until it cools down around here.

Cravings? Sugar and/or carbs. I have requested salad and vegetable cravings for next week!

Symptoms? As long as I eat regularly I don't have any more nausea but skip a meal and I have to puke. Makes no sense at all... My bedside table is fully stocked. I am thinking of moving the mini-fridge beside my bed for those 4am hunger pangs.

Sleep? The insomnia I experienced from weeks 6-9 is gone and for the most part I am no longer waking up to pee in the middle of the night which is awesome! Doubt that will last for long...

Workouts? Getting back on track! I did 3 runs last week (for the 1st time in 6ish weeks?) and so far this week I have run once and did a 1 hr pre-natal yoga DVD. Glad to have my energy back!

What I am excited for? End of September when we find out the baby's gender!! Let the shopping commence!!

What I miss? My running pace, making race plans,  my wardrobe and sushi! All temporary stuff!

Memorable Pregnancy Moments? Our two ultrasounds! First one was at 6 weeks so the baby was barely recognizable as anything other than a blob but we could see it's flickering heart beat! Hubby said it looked like Pac Man!! We had another ultrasound at 12 weeks where baby had grown significantly and looked like a real human. Our active genes have clearly been passed on as baby was bouncing around, flipping over and kicking his/her legs. It's crazy that there is a circus going on inside me and I can't feel it yet!!

12 weeks
Baby Purchases? I bought a pair of owl book ends for the nursery!! Not 100% sure of the "theme" yet but these owls caught my eye a few times and I figured why not. I can always return them if they don't work later on.

Wish list? A DSLR camera! Our point and shoot isn't going to cut it any longer when we have important memories to document!! Just trying to fit it into the budget now... crib or camera??? We have a laundry basket the baby can sleep in!

Pregzilla Moments? I quickly found out that this baby has his/her father's appetite! If I don't eat regularly, I turn into a grumpy beast. I am not a big eater to begin with but I carry all sorts of snacks in my purse and have a stash of food at work to keep the hunger/nausea away!

I am sure hubby would have more to add to this, but he knows better!!

13 Weeks!!

Warm Sweaty Run

Last night was another warm one. We had 5K on schedule. Normally 5K isn't that big of a deal (I did 10.5K on Sunday...) but it seemed to go on and on and on last night. We did one of our regular routes that is pretty flat but there wasn't any shade so I was cooking.

I had to take a couple walk breaks as my heart rate was getting a bit high. I can't wait for some cooler evening temperatures!

Thankfully a couple other runners decided to take it easy as well so I had lots of company. I carried one of my 8oz. water bottles that I normally put in my fuel belt and it wasn't enough! I think I could have used another 8oz.! I definitely need to find a bigger handheld ASAP.

Based on all of your suggestions (thanks SO much!), I think a Nathan handheld is going to be my best bet. I just hope another local running store carries them as I can't wait for one to come through the mail!

Something like this

Huge Relief!!

Well I am glad to have that news out in the open now!

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes! Hubby and I are super excited about this journey! I appreciate everyone sharing other pregnancy fitness blogs and advice as there will be plenty of changes that I will need info on!!

We already received our first piece of baby equipment- a jogging/cycling stroller! It will be awhile before we can use it but we will be able to include the baby in our training when s/he is big enough to sit in it.
Not exactly as shown

Now I can be honest about my workouts again!!

I had to miss quite a few group runs the last 6 weeks or so as the fatigue and morning sickness made it nearly impossible to stay awake, never mind run! When we started hill training I knew it was going to be interesting keeping the pregnancy a secret without looking like a total slacker! I missed most of the hill workouts until I told my running group about my new running “partner.” Good thing as that hill kills me on a regular day!

I wasn’t able to keep up with my long runs so the half marathon group is up to 16K now and I have been doing 10K. I am still joining them, just turning around sooner. I have added close to a minute per kilometer to my pace so I am slow as molasses now!

I am not going to sign up for a fall half marathon as I can’t imagine running 21K at my current pace. I know I “could” do it if I really wanted to but I don’t want to! I am going to look for some 5K and 10K races to do for fun before the flurries (sorry, the F word!) fly.

Question for those of you who use a handheld water bottle for your runs- what brand do you have? Now that my water belt is getting uncomfortable I need to find an alternative ASAP! Here’s my problem- I HATE the bottles where you bite the top to get the water out so Camelbaks are out. They all require you to bite them. So now I am looking at handheld water bottles with a strap and small pocket but the ones I have come across also require you to bite them! So please share with me what you use!!!

I have thought about hiring someone to run/walk beside me with water but so far no takers.

Training for the Race of a Lifetime!

Well, it's time to make it real.

Hubby and I have signed up and started training for the race of our lives.

We may have lost our minds! The commitment will be insane, our social lives will change, and sleep will become something of the past. This training program is nothing like anything we have done before, but neither is the race.

No, it's not Ironman, or a Full Marathon... I am pretty sure there won't be a medal at the end, but there will be plenty of support along the way.

Oh my, what have we gotten ourselves into!!

The race will start February 2012.

Yup, it's a baby!!
12 weeks

We are overjoyed and can't wait for the little one to join us! There will be plenty of changes to deal with along the way but people keep telling us it's all worth it!

So this explains my slacking in the training department (thank you, morning sickness) and lack of fall half marathon goal race. I have been taking it day by day and now that I am in the second trimester I have my energy back and I am back on the pathways!!

My plan is to workout as long as I possibly can- running, swimming, biking, strength training, and  pre-natal yoga. I have the go-ahead from the Docs so I can continue doing whatever I was doing before as long as I feel up to it.

So yah, that's the big news around here!

My blog posts are inevitably going to shift towards staying fit during pregnancy, just to give you the heads up. For the next little while I am going to be working towards Baby PRs, which will be significantly slower than my other PRs.

For once it listened to me!!

On our way home from the chiropractor yesterday afternoon, the sky was looking pretty bleak. Great... was our postponed run going to be postponed again?

Massive rain cloud looming over the NW

I told the weather it had one hour to smarten up!

It promptly started to down pour torrential rains. The wipers on the car could barely keep up!

Pouring rain on the highway

Thankfully the more east we went the sky became lighter but I knew it would only be a matter of time before the storm followed us home. Sure enough about 15 minutes later, it started pouring at our house. Great... the storm was moving in the direction of our running store.

About half an hour before we were supposed to meet up, I texted our instructor to make sure that the run was still on. She said it was so we headed out. It had stopped raining but some of the clouds were looking a little threatening.

Only a handful of people showed up so we headed to the hill to do our repeats. Since I have been slacking away, I did only 4 hills instead of the 7 that was on the schedule. They were exhausting as usual.

In the end, the rain stayed away and it was a great night for a run!! For once the weather cooperated!

~Three Things Thursday~

1. Will this work week ever end??? The workload hasn't slowed down one bit since getting back from vacation. It has actually increased greatly. Which partially explains my blogging absence...

2. Not running related but does anyone have a Canon Rebel DSLR camera? We are thinking of getting one and I want to hear some real people reviews and not just sales pitches. If I have a better camera I can post more pictures!!!

3. Last night's run= cancelled!! Our instructor called off the run about an hour before as yet another thunderstorm rolled in. It has been postponed to tonight so hopefully the forecasted thunderstorm stays awhile until we are done!! I refuse to go on the treadmill in August!

Thanks for sharing your own running-in-the-rain stories!! It actually isn't that bad, as long as it is warm out. Now if it could rain without the lightening... Safety first!

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Slowly getting back on track!

Yay another run this week!

This time I didn't let the rain stop me from running! The clouds looked pretty ominous when we started our run- we even changed our route to an area that had "less scary" clouds. Pretty much 5 minutes into the run it started pouring!

It was very refreshing though so I didn't actually mind. The thunder was a little alarming but it was far enough away that I wasn't too concerned. We did a 5K loop that I dislike (well the direction I dislike as it is mostly uphill!) and apparently our whole group complained about it!

The best thing about the run? The double rainbow once the rain stopped!! Man I wish I had my camera!!

A little late... ~What I did this Weekend~

It was a pretty relaxing weekend which is exactly what I needed!

Friday I did a bit of shopping after work. I planned to go for a short run when I got home but once again Mother Nature had other plans. We had another thunderstorm and torrential rain fall which ended up flooding our entire street. The water went from halfway up our driveway across the road (and boulevard) to half way up the neighbors across the street's driveway!

Our street- water rising fast!
Neighbor and fireman trying to clear the drains of debris

The road was closed for a few hours while they (neighbors & fire department) worked to clear the drains of debris and clean up the muddy, rocky mess that all the water brought along with it.
No run that night but we did go for a 3K walk to check out the rest of the neighborhood (which was fine).  Thankfully none of our property was damaged during the flash flood, but some neighbors weren't so lucky with their cars.

Saturday was chore and errand day. In the evening, hubby and I went to see Crazy Stupid Love. It was a great movie- probably one of the best I have seen in awhile!! I laughed the entire time.

Sunday we joined the running group for a long run, starting at Edworthy Park. I love this route! It is so nice to run by the river, with lots of trees, other runners and cyclists. It was a gorgeous day so the pathways were busy. It's nice to be back on the pathways!

The best part was ice cream afterwards!! Unfortunately not all runs can end this way!!

~Three Things Thursday~

1. Looking forward to visiting with my cousin tonight that I haven't seen in 6 years!! He lives on the other end of the country and is in town for work this week!

2. Love me a short week! I am in need of a massage badly so itching for Saturday to roll around so I can get these knots worked on. Sitting at my desk is torture.

3. I am getting pretty frustrated with my lack of workouts lately! Last night I had great intentions of joining the group for hills but I got stuck downtown and didn't make it back in time. Then I planned on doing my own run but the sky had other plans. A typical Calgary summer afternoon/evening thunderstorm rolled in. The amount of rain was insane! I thought for sure our road was going to flood. With the thunder and lightening it wasn't safe to go outside so I watched the storm from the safety of my house. Which is a good thing because it started to hail!

I am not complaining about the weather because we have had some pretty decent temperatures lately but I am frustrated that things out of my control are preventing me from working out/running. C'est la vie!

July Reflections

I think I burned myself out with the 40 Day Challenge. I really enjoyed it, but I have been looking for every excuse in the book to avoid a workout! I think I really need to sign up for a fall race as I need something to work towards.

Don’t ask how the tri training is going…
