~Five Things Friday~

1. I did another Ripped workout last night while hubby attempted to give A a bottle. My workout was ok- I had some elbow pain which I have never had so I had to stop doing some of the exercises. Then I woke up this morning and my back is a tad sore. I haven't increased my measly weights either so it can't be blamed on that! Audrey wasn't super cooperative with the bottle either.

2. Cloth diaper trial is ordered. I figure I might as well give a few brands a shot and if I decide not to pursue cloth diapering at all I haven't really lost any money. If anything I will have saved money because I won't be using disposables during that time.

3. I found a Mom and Baby Pilates class that starts at the end of May that I am going to sign up for. I would prefer yoga but the yoga classes didn't really fit my schedule so I am going to give pilates a try. I took a couple pilates classes before I started running and doing triathlon (actually me taking the pilates class is why hubby signed up for the triathlon class and the rest is history!) and I really enjoyed it. I was doing it with my sister though so it was also a social thing--- I kinda miss that actually!

3. On Wednesday, I almost skipped the Stroller walking group as A had a terrible night and I was bagged when it was time to get up. She was in such a good mood though and I knew that meeting up with my friends would be a good thing so I dragged myself out of bed, rushed to get ready and ran out the door with a couple minutes to spare. The forecast said high of 21C so I wore capris. Well that was a mistake. It was super foggy out and lightly misting. Audrey screamed the entire car ride and I thought for sure we were going to have to turn around and go home. She settled down when I put her in the stroller and I just started walking around waiting for the others to arrive. Meanwhile I am freezing- I could have used long pants, a hat, gloves and a jacket!! Thankfully I had a nice warm blanket for Audrey and to think I almost dressed her in something summery! Finally my one friend showed up that I wasn't expecting to see since her baby tends to sleep late. She was getting her stroller out of the trunk and just about to get her baby out of the car when she realized that she locked the keys in the trunk-- with her baby in the car!! She slightly panicked (I would have been hysterical!) but her husband was only a few minutes away so she called him to bring the spare key. Her baby was perfectly content in the car- smiling at us and just chomping away at her hands! Once we got her out we continued with our walk- did 3K around the lake.

4. Still undecided about the race-- I need to get out running more but this nasty rain isn't helping! Oh right- I have a treadmill in the basement. No more excuses lady!!

5. Audrey had her 2 month doctor's appointment yesterday and she weighs 10lbs, 15oz. So hubby and I were both wrong!! I'm sorta relieved since she was gaining so much so quickly I thought she would be 20lbs by 4 months! They measured her length too and said she was 22inches which doesn't make sense since we measured her ourselves a couple weeks ago and she was 24 inches! It's hard to measure them though and they say it's not always accurate. Plus she is growing out of clothes so she's definitely longer than 22 inches!

Audrey: 2 months

How many times do I have to ask for time to slow down before it actually happens? I was looking at pictures of Audrey when she was first born- wow, was she ever tiny! Now she seems massive compared to then. She is so much longer, her cheeks are super chubby, she has rolls on her legs and she is growing out of clothing so fast! :(

Look at the difference from one month!

Sleep- still all over the place. It could be worse, but it could be better. We seems to get a couple good nights of 5 hours, then 3 hours but then she switches it up and is awake every.2.hours!! I'm trying to not worry about it since this is totally normal. Her naps up until a couple days ago were really good- she would sleep in the swing, car seat, stroller, sometimes crib but now we really have to work on getting her to have a decent nap during the day. She is one cranky girl if she doesn't get her sleep (gee, I wonder where she gets that from!?!)

Eating- well there has to be a reason why she is such a chubby monkey! She eats pretty regularly- every 2 hours during the day. We are working on getting her to take a bottle occasionally. It's tough, more so for Daddy since she gets quite upset but everyone keeps telling us it will be worth it in the end. I sure hope they are right!

Getting out- we are regularly going to our Running Room's Stroller Group which is awesome! Love getting out and meeting other moms and babies while getting a workout in. We have also signed up for a Baby and Mom class that starts next week. It's more of an informative class on babies but it will be nice to interact with other moms and babies.

Weight/Clothes- Audrey is so long that she has been wearing 3 month clothes for a couple weeks now. She has grown out of all her newborn stuff and even a few 3 month items. Makes me sad but I guess she's doing what she is supposed to! Good thing she has more cute stuff to grow into! :) We have our first doctor's appointment this week after being discharged from the midwives :( so we will find out how much she weighs and how long she is now. I'm guessing she's at least 11 pounds. (Daddy thinks at least 12 pounds!)

Cloth diapers- I planned on using them after the newborn stage. So far I still haven't done a diaper trial but a friend lent me a couple so we are trying them out right now. I sure hope they keep things contained! The one downside is that it makes her crotch so massive that she has to wear larger clothes!! It wouldn't be such a big deal if she didn't have so many cute outfits to wear that wouldn't fit with the giant diapers under them! I'm still really torn on the whole thing but I have to decide soon.

Personality- Audrey is one feisty child! I shouldn't be surprised! She gives you about 3 seconds to figure out what she wants before going into full-on scream fest. Usually if we can't figure it out, I just feed her! She smiles lots and is soooo close to giggling! She loves laying on her play mat and watching the dancing lights and chirping birds on the little bear's belly.

Coolest race- that I can't do :(

I just saw an ad for this sweet looking race this August- Color Me Rad!! I am so bummed that I can't do it! It's on one of the weekends that we are supposed to be out of town. Why are all the cool races when I am busy??

Someone has to do this so I can live vicariously through you and be insanely jealous! Please!!! Sign up!!

A Beautiful Day!!

Audrey and I went for a long walk today to enjoy the nice weather- it's about 15 C and sunny. I wore capris for the first time!

I had to pick up my jeans from the tailors and I figured it would be perfect to incorporate a long walk to go get them. It's a bit of a hike- about 3K each way but we did that distance last week with the stroller group so I knew Audrey could handle it.

It was a tad windy out- ok really windy! It made it an even better workout pushing the stroller against that wind! Once we picked up the jeans, we went to Starbucks for a snack and a drink. I needed a break before heading back home! The walk back was a little harder- more uphills against the wind and Audrey was getting a bit fussy but we both made it back alive!

Covered with the bug net since spring brings bugs!
Case in point- Lady Bug on the stroller!

I still haven't been getting any other workouts in yet. We did get a video monitor but Audrey rarely naps in her crib during the day so I will have to move it during the day to wherever she is. Honestly during her morning nap today I also napped since her sleep has gone to sh!t again. In the evenings I am generally too tired to workout and afraid that I will get too wired if I do. Excuses I know! It will come in time- I'm not too worried about it. I just miss working out and all the awesome adrenaline I get from it.

Hubby gave Audrey a bottle the other night! We decided it was best for me to not be at home when he tried so as to not confuse her. It was quite tough for them- she was really fussy and wouldn't settle. She did end up taking the bottle which is good but sure makes me sad that she had such a hard time with it.  Poor Daddy! Hopefully the next time won't be so bad. We just want her to take the occasional bottle and we've heard it's better to introduce it earlier rather than later or else they won't take it when you really need them to.

~Audrey's Baby Shower~

My wonderful sister hosted a family baby shower for Audrey this past weekend.

She used the nursery as inspiration and with the help of her friend came up with an amazing theme!!
I loved it so much!!

Bird house diaper cake
Delicious bird's nest cupcake
So creative and yummy!!

Audrey got some extra mileage out of her Easter dress.

It was so nice to visit lots of family that we haven't seen in ages!

Audrey was so happy- smiling and cooing for everyone! A totally different baby from the previous weekend when she was so overstimulated at Easter.

Looking at Auntie

Smooches from Auntie

Big smiles for Auntie!

Eskimo kisses from Grandma

Big Smiles!!

LOVE this little girl so much!! It's funny to see the family fight over her! I don't blame them with those smiles!

Working on Goals...

It's time for me to start working on some goals.

What better way to motivate myself then sign up for a short race to keep me on track. Why is it so difficult to find a decent 5K in the summer around here? We are a big city with lots of runners? I will admit (as I have many times on this blog!) that I am a medal snob. If I am going to pay big bucks for a race I want something to show for it! I need to fill up my awesome medal display (that I still need to hang).

We have a very busy summer with 3 weddings to attend and all the other events that go along with weddings. Not too many weekends are free and it seems the ones that are either don't have races or they are too expensive with no medal, no medal but reasonably priced or I'm not thrilled about the route.

Mmmm seems my return to racing is proving to be more difficult than i thought and for the wrong reasons! There is an awesome new race in June but it's the day of my brother-in-law's wedding reception so it would be silly to attempt a race that day with everything we need to do.

So far I have found the Stampede Road Race on July 8th- no medal, and Step Up for Students on July 22nd- no medal but cheaper entry fee.

Are there any races I haven't heard about in July that might be good? Sorry- have to be in Calgary!

I will continue my search--

Audrey: 7 Weeks

Wow- it's hard to believe that it has been 7 weeks since my sweet Angel was born! It seems like yesterday I found out I was pregnant and now she is here at almost 2 months!

Everyone tells you it goes by so quickly and it does! Days become nights, weeks become months... I just want time to slow down. I am trying to enjoy every moment, cuddle, diaper change (weird I know), feeding, smile, play time, walk. etc. etc. etc.

Audrey is officially out of newborn diapers. We tried the size 1s a few weeks ago since I didn't want to buy another box of newborns just for her to grow out of them but there were some pretty nasty leaks as they were just too big. Lately we have been having some leaks from the newborn diapers since she is getting so big so we finished up the box and are now onto size 1s. Makes me sad :(

Hopefully we will start cloth diapering soon. I have done a ton of research on what kind of diaper I want, I just haven't gone ahead and bought any or done a trial yet. A friend gave me a couple diapers today to give it a go so hopefully there won't be too many disasters with them!

I am a little apprehensive to say too much about her sleep because it seems every time I say something good it changes!! She has been sleeping for a good 4-5 hour stretch, waking for a feed (usually an hour by the time she eats, change her diaper and can put her back down) and then she sleeps for another 2-3 hours. It isn't consistent though- sometimes only sleeps for 3 hours, other times she wakes up every 2 hours. She has been napping quite a bit too- growth spurt I think. She usually eats every 2-3 hours during the day.

Audrey is also taking a soother quite regularly now. We introduced it at 2 weeks since she was using me as a soother and I needed a break! I don't mind, but every hour was getting excessive. She was a little apprehensive at first but now takes it for the most part if she isn't hungry.

At her last midwife appointment at 5 weeks, 4 days she was 9 pounds, 9oz so I am sure she is over 10 pounds now!! My girl is growing so fast. She is super long too, with long feet. She is most definitely going to grow out of clothes length wise before weight wise.

Tears... hers flow which breaks my heart when I can't fix what's wrong fast enough. Sometimes it's when she's hungry and we are almost home so no point in stopping on the side of the road; it happened a bit when she was uncomfy from her rash; when she is tired and she can't figure out how to put herself to sleep, to name a few occasions. There may have been a few times that my tears were flowing also. Motherhood can be so hard sometimes.

On a good note, Audrey is smiling lots now! I love her grins so much. Her first real smiles started during week 4 when we were hanging out in her room for a few days while trying to heal her nasty body rash. They are far more frequent now. She recognizes her Daddy's voice and when he calls she turns his head towards the phone and smiles!

Happy Baby!

She has started "playing" a bit now on her play mat and lambskin. She watches the blinking lights and occasionally hits the toys hanging over her head although I know she is just doing that reflexively- she can't intentionally hit them yet!

So soft on the lambskin

A Return to Winter

Well yesterday sorta reminded me of the day Audrey was born- a winter storm blew in without much warning!!

Audrey and I had planned a "play date" with the ladies and their babies from our prenatal class. Originally we were going to visit the zoo but with rain in the forecast we opted for the mall! Good thing we did as a surprise winter storm rolled in!! I didn't bring a jacket with me so I was quite unprepared for it!

I ran into Heather and Zoey in the family room at the mall(it's where all the cool people hang out apparently). We chatted for a bit and they got to meet Audrey. Zoey is so big now! Last time I saw her in person she was 3 weeks old and just wee. She gave me big smiles- she's darling! We will have to set up a walking date once winter is for sure gone!

We went to some friends' house for dinner which made a super long day for Audrey and I. She was very well behave and barely cried all day. Somehow when we got home she was wide awake and would not sleep! Thankfully she wasn't crying but she isn't at the age where she is ok with you leaving the room while she's awake for long so I sat up with her during this ;ate night time. I for one was exhausted and just wanted to sleep! I ended up sleeping most of the night in the recliner since I was tired of running back and forth between rooms when she would wake up after 10 minutes. Ahhh love that thing!

Today is a relaxing day. I am trying to stay off my feet since they are sore from all the asking I have done the past 3 days. Maybe I will get a nap in...

Bundled up for a walk

Watching the lights on my play mat

Big stretch!!

I'm so cute- my Daddy says so!

Piglet on my bum!!

We have a busy weekend planned- another baby shower for family and friends to met Audrey!! Can't wait to put her in her cute purple dress again! Hopefully she won't cry this time!

Happy Friday the 13th!!!

~Three Things Thursday~

1. Finally did my first post- partum run!!! Yippee!! It was just a short 20 minute run/walk on the treadmill and I survived! It wasn't as bad as I thought it might be but I also had super low expectations for myself. My pelvis is a tad sore so hopefully that will go away with practice. I find it is like that after a long walk so I am sure it's just for using muscles that I haven't used in awhile.

2. Audrey and I have been walking lots. Mostly by ourselves but yesterday we met up with the Running Room's Stroller Group. It's amazing how hard it is to get out the door for 10am! Of course it was after the night she woke up a little more often and I couldn't fall asleep between feeds so I was a little sleep deprived. We ended up walking 6K (doing one of my regular running routes!) and I can definitely feel it! Also that route takes forever when you are walking it as opposed to when I normally run it! It was great to have lots of company though! Audrey was a champ and either slept or stared at me quietly during the whole walk.

3. Finally some smiles on camera!

Love it!!!!

Audrey's First Easter

It's funny how holidays and long weekends don't seem as big of a deal when you are on maternity leave! Hubby had to work a bit during the day on Good Friday so it just seemed like any other maternity leave day.

Audrey and I had a "play date"/coffee date with my friend Kristen. Last year Kristen and I were training hard for half marathons together- this year we are new moms!! Kristen had sweet little Madeline in December so she is already back to training for half marathons- jealous!

It was nice to catch up with her and talk about how much our lives have changed now that we have little ones to take care of. After coffee we went for a half hour walk to put the babies to sleep (well Audrey slept the entire time- growth spurt!) I can't wait for more coffee/play dates with them and I definitely can't wait to get back to training with Kristen!

Saturday we had Easter dinner at hubby's parents' house. Of course she was the centre of attention but she is getting to that age where she is pretty curious so she became really overtired and cranky. She's going to have to learn to sleep anywhere since our families are loud!

A little smile

Easter Sunday we went to my sister's house. The Easter Bunny (aka Auntie) brought her a cute Chicks Rule outfit! I still think he could have at least dropped off some chocolate for her- I would have made sure she got it!!

Again she was a bit fussy from over stimulation- her Aunties and Grandma were falling over each other to cuddle her so we had to take her upstairs to get some quiet time so she could fall asleep. Her Auntie has the special touch!

I don't think she likes dresses!!!

~Three Things Thursday~

1. Rash update- it's getting better. Still not sure what the cause is- detergent or food sensitivity so we will be watching it closely to see if it gets better or worse. I have been using a prescription cream on her face and that has helped tremendously but are we just treating the symptom without knowing the cause? We shall see.

2. Audrey is smiling now! She smiled a couple times around 4 weeks but is definitely smiling at us now!!! It's so wonderful! We call her nose the smile button!

3. I need to come up with a strategy for working out. It snowed yesterday so walking outside isn't possible for a couple days. All my workout stuff is in the basement which is too cold and dirty for the baby. We need to get a monitor so I feel comfortable leaving her to nap in her room 3 floors away while I work out. Hubby has been working late the past week so evening workouts aren't a reliable option right now.

Other than logistics I feel ready to get back at it and get into shape again!!

First Trip with the Lil' One

We decided to go to Fernie with hubby's parents this past weekend. It was a nice chance to get out of town,  change of scenery and hubby was able to go snowboarding.

Audrey did quite well during the 3.5 hour drive down. She only cried a little bit but mostly slept. We stopped part way there to have some dinner and feed Audrey as she usually eats every 2-ish hours.

Audrey is starting to give us smiles which melts our hearts! I haven't really caught any on camera yet but hopefully soon I can share her sweet grin! She mostly smiles at her Daddy- she adores him!

Hubby and his dad hit the slopes on Saturday while his mom, Audrey and I hung out in the condo. It was nice to have a couple extra sets of hands to hold Audrey. I was even able to get a 2 hour nap!

Audrey didn't sleep at night that well- a combination of too many naps and a change of scenery and routine for her. Not having her rocker definitely made things harder as she is used to being rocked to sleep so it required much more work from me to get her to sleep!! I am glad I didn't have to get up early all weekend!

On Sunday we went for a nice walk on the hill. Audrey doesn't mind being in the Moby wrap when Daddy wears it.

Walking in Fernie
Daddy and Audrey have coordinated hats!

Her rash seems to have come back :( First it looked like it was just lingering on her face- maybe from rubbing it or something but now it's on her back and chest again. Our midwife had mentioned that sometimes the natural laundry soaps (which I have been using for her clothes) can be irritants because they don't rinse out as well like detergents do. I did re-wash all her clothes with vinegar, the natural laundry soap and an extra rinse cycle last week but I am going to try switching laundry detergents and hope that makes a difference.

The rash did get better after 2 days of nakedness last week which leads me to believe it is the laundry soap. Talk about never ending laundry!! I sure hope this is the cause of the rash as I am out of ideas and it breaks my heart to see her so uncomfortable from the itchiness.

I have started a workout challenge with some mommy friends. Some of us are doing a 30 day Shred, others are running and a few are doing a mix of things like me! I hope to workout 3-5 days a week for at least 20 minutes a day- walking, yoga, strength training, running and maybe spinning. So far I have just been walking but hopefully once Audrey is feeling better and less fussy I can do some other workouts. We are coming up on 6 weeks since her birth which means I should be officially cleared to workout again. I don't see why not, other than sleep deprivation! I will be easing back into it though.
